Is there a way that I can mount the cd-rom drive to the desktop, so I can bring files in?

Try the "mount" command. Again you've got to be root to do this.
Code:
mount -t auto /dev/cdrom /cdrom

I shudder to ask why you don't just transfer using a network connection...

What do I type for the program name for (exedit) to run as root? I choose run as different user. Then it asks for program name then run as root? Also I tried to mount my cd-rom drive and it says it is write-ptotected. Thanks in advance.

Alright I finally figured out how to login as root. Now how do you get the code from the forum into the /etc/lircd.conf file and /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc file? I can view and edit both of the files. I tried to copy and paste it into xedit but that didnt work. Any help would be greatly appreaicated,
