There is something in my system that is changing my alsa settings and it is driving me nuts! I have set up my alsa to my specified settings, and did a store -f /path/file to save these settings to a file.

In an attempt to get them to restore on boot...(since a reboot often resets my sound settings) I've added:

exec /usr/sbin/asound restore -f /path/file

to both /etc/init.d/alsa and bootmisch.sh

But for some reason, something comes along at the end of my reboot and changes my settings, because when I log in after a clean reboot, my saved settings are not applied. If I execute the command manually, they are, so I know I have the syntax right.

To add mystery to this issue, after correcting my sound, my Myth will randomly change back to the wrong sound settings whenever it feels like it. I haven't narrowed it down to completely random or when the playback of a recorded show is initiated. To remedy this, I've added the restore command to my crontab and set it to run every 5 minutes. I know this is a band-aid approach, but I can't figure out what exactly keeps resetting my sound. On a reboot is one thing, but while it is running is another.

Is there any way to this activity back to a log? I need know when and why this is happening.

Update: I think that initiating the playback of shows is triggering the audio changes. I wonder why that would be.

I fixed a similar issue with alsa settings getting zapped on reboot by adding:

[startup] {/usr/sbin/alsactl restore}

to /home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps
