OK, I already have 2x PVR-150 (model 1045's) and, sick of the clunky, unresponsive remote, have purchased an MS MCE2005 USB remote w/receiver.
I thought this was compatible, but LIRC indicates this is a "newer version and may not work correctly" or something. It certainly doesn't work when I try to rerun the /usr/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh script and reboot.
Do I need to download the latest LIRC source and install it? Is there a correct lirc.conf file for this thing? I searched these forums, and browsed the KnoppMythWikki, but couldn't seem to find the answer.
Running KnoppMyth R530A.2 w/IVTV 0.4.2 .

Welcome to the club, sir!!!
Here are some forums linked at the lirc homepage... perhaps something will turn up in here:

Here's what I do.
Works every time for me.
I searched the forums and ran across this useful tip (back up your files first):
Quote: I did not do that.... on R5A26 all I did was: cp /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/mceusb2/etc/lircd.conf /etc/lircd.conf cp /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/mceusb2/etc/lircrc /home/mythtv/.mythtv/
I also had to change /etc/init.d/lirc from: start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/lircd -- $LIRCD_ARGS \ to: start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/lircd \
After that, just reboot.
Can't take any sort of credit, but it works like a charm for me. YMMV
thanks,

Thanks, L0o0ky, I'm going to try this!
Did you have to install another version of LIRC, or is this with the Knoppmyth-included one?

This is all I did. I didn't need o download or compile a thing.
I've gone through several test installs and hardware configs (didn't like the old motherboard I started out with--it only had 3 PCI slots...). It has worked every time.
thanks,

Yeah - I had the same issue, and the tip above made my PVR-150-MCE Remote come to life as well on a R5A30.2.
Simple? maybe... But still the right tip at the right time. Thanks a lot!
Some of the keys dosn't seem to be mapped correctly. This must be fixable by changing the lircrc file. I'll play with that a bit later.
A part from the remote control issue, Knoppmyth installation was really plug and play.
Beautyfull! I will definately join the fan club.

Remapping the buttons may be a bit too technical for me; I think I'll hold out and see what turns up. Please let us know if you have any luck!
I'll tell everyone one thing is for sure: the MCE USB2 remote is 1000% more responsive than the original PVR-150 remote running off that dinky receiver. I went ahead and got another one for the wife. This had been her biggest complaint about the Myth box... no longer!

Dang. Remote broke with an upgrade to R5B7.
I noticed that the version of lircd was 0.80 CVS or something on R5B7; on my old R5A30.2 box, i think it was version 0.7something-- but it also included PVR-150 in the string.
Do I need to recompile LIRCD, perhaps?

You know,
I haven't made the jump to R5B7 quite yet. I'm trying to save up for a quieter fan for the CPU and a new HD. Figure I might just wait for that to happen to upgrade (or at least wait for the next release or two to make the jump)
Have you tried running the lirc configure script and then run through the steps I suggested before?

I did the upgrade to R5B7 too - and the remote stopped working.
After copying the two config files as suggested above, the remote was working again after a reboot.
No need to run any lirc configure script.
The L0o0ky hint still rules in my book!
Happy day,
/Nikolaj

I copied the two files, as before. On the reboot I didn't receive the error message on startup that the Philips USB was disconnected anymore... but it still doesn't work
AH, brain fart--forgot this part:
I also had to change /etc/init.d/lirc
from:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/lircd -- $LIRCD_ARGS
\
to:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/lircd \
I'll try again. Sorry for the stupidity!

Unfortuately, this did not fix it.
It's a shame--really wanted to try MythTV 0.19.
I messed around with it a bit, and it seemed fine--except for some occasional "blips" of audio that were not fixed with the extra audio buffering option.
I'll wait for the next release. Happy that R5A30.2 works fine--ESPECIALLY with the wife-friendly MCE USB2 remote--thanks again, L0o0ky !
