I hope I'm posting this in the right place. The posts I've been through so far have helped me out a lot. But I've come accross a problem I can't seem to find any info on.

I had some problems getting mythweb to burn a dvd and the information gained in this form has been great. However I have a problem near the end of the burn, the message is below:

Quote:
dev/dvd: "Current Write Speed" is 8.2x1385KBps.
:-[ WRITE@LBA=10h failed with SK=3h/ASC=0Ch/ACQ=00h]: Input/output error
:-( write failed: Input/output error
/dev/dvd: flushing cache
/dev/dvd: updating RMA
/dev/dvd: closing disc
/dev/dvd: reloading tray
mkisofs: Broken pipe. cannot fwrite 2048*2

I'm running R5A30.1 on a Shuttle SB16 with 1GB RAM, 250G disk and running R5A30.1

I have had this happen occasionally when the computer is too busy (like recording two programmes and watching another one at the same time as burning), and once or twice with cheap media.

Try with DVD-RW media first?

Thanks nigelpearson, I'll give it a try, though I had nothing else running, just the burn at the time.

Well, I'll admit I was a bit skeptical, but I poped in a DVD+R disk in there and sure enough it worked fine!

Thanks nigelpearson for the help on this.

Any idea why a DVD-R wouldn't work? or do you think it's just the type of DVD-R I was using?

I suspect the media, but it could also be a problem with the disk drive's laser getting old, or its firmware (e.g. it has different "bad block retry" behaviour for -R vs +R media which causes problems with Linux)
