OK, no green squares this time...now I get NO preview videos on the main menu. I get a background image and show titles, and invisible hotspots where the previews are supposed to be, not even a highlight image.

I also now get a grid of mythTV logo thumbs on the scene selection page.

Sigh. Maybe I'll go for broke and upgrade to MythTV 0.19 to really muddy the waters...

Also, how do you get stuff installed from freshrpms? I grabbed the RPM and it had dependencies...that I couldn't find at freshrpms. I did a YUM upgrade, but that pulled stuff from atrpms instead. I ended up doing an rpm -i --force --nodep on it, which was terribly brute-force of me, but I just wanted the *(#&@$@ freshrpms version installed. Now I'm wondering if that's part of the problem...

I use smart. I'm pretty sure I just did:

$ smart info 'transcode*'

then used the fully qualifed name w/smart install:

$ smart install transcode-1.0.2-2.2.fc4

Figured out the problem, it was having trouble loading libavcodec.so and was failing. Got that going and now it runs....and then hangs up partway through the process.

Code:

writing packet 414

Got it working...I punted and upgraded everything, so now I'm at 0.19

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=50476

Somewhat painful, and the 0.19 stuff still needs work to get it up to the 0.18 level, but it is working.

PPS - there is some additional help here:

http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... ipts_HowTo

...that covers how to correct the missing menu highlight if you are still having that problem.

Hi guys.

I think this thread was originally mine, and I started it reporting that my menu navigation was broken, as in I wouldn't see the bar or circle over the thumbnails to indicate you were trying to select them.

I may've solved my problem (finally).

And thanks to patman for that last tip about looking at this link again:

http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... ipts_HowTo

I'm pretty sure last time I looked at it, they did *not* have that last section about how to fix the "highlight" problem. But they do now, and the third of three workarounds they mentioned worked for me.

I downloaded dvdauthor 0.6.11 and compiled it from scratch. For some reason, that seems to make the navigation work whereas the 0.6.11 version from Gentoo's portage doesn't.

Also, at one point, I'd attempted to drop back to an earlier ImageMagick version, found that portage didn't go back far enough, and then went "back" or so I thought.

Turns out, I went too far forward to the most recent one, which then gave me the green thumbnails that it sounds like so many of you were experiencing!

Needless to say, I was pissed. Luckily, I was able to lookup the original (non green thumbnail) version of Image Magick I was running, and it was Gentoo's 6.2.4.2-r1. When I recompiled that version, *everything* seemed to finally come together.

I've burned two full different DVDs w/ this setup, and they both seem to work great. I did have one fail when I tried to do the chapter submenus .. ., so I ditched on that one since that wasn't very important to me. But then I was able to create even those on a later one.

I also plan to go to 0.19 soon, when I get a free Saturday or something, and I'm hoping that by then all of the little plugins I need / want will be working and that maybe I'll even be able to run Mythburn-UI (which I can totally not get to compile on 0.18.1).

Hope this helps someone.
