Thanks. Yes, I already had the fluxbox execute command in there, so yes, I should have seen that.

I removed the "." and it still does nothing.

If this needs to be 2+ commands, I can have fluxbox execute multiple commands in "{ }", if that helps.

It seems that fluxbox can directly execute the command without arguments. (It kicks me out to the login prompt.) Maybe this is a feature request for fluxbox...

you should be able to run a script from fluxbox. this script can call any number of commands. any of these commands can be preceeded by sudo

Thanks. If you'll note, I've put my entire procedure down in one of the parents to this post. If you could see where I'm going wrong and post that info, that'd be great. Thanks again.

Did anyone ever manage to get this working? I've spent all day trying every permutation for something similar. It works fine when run from xterm as user mythtv but when called from myth it just stops gdm and never restarts it? (toggledisplay.sh has been sudo'd so mythtv can run it as root)

$ sudo /usr/bin/toggledisplay.sh

Code:
#!/bin/bash
# toggledisplay.sh
# swap in different XF86Config-4
nohup /etc/init.d/gdm restart

I've simplified my example to only show the relevant stuff. The issue boils down to getting mythtv to call a script that will 'properly' execute a gdm restart? or someway to make X reload the XF86Config-4 file. It's driving me kerrrrrazeeeee!

I am not worthy... Thank you very, very much.

My script works perfect now. Double click remote power button calls restartmyth.sh that sudo calls my script. My script toggles between two diff XF86Config's one for interlaced 16:9 TV and one for 4:3 CRT + changes some settings in the database. I found Twinview not to my liking + this accounts for the different aspect ratios and other stuff. When I finish all my experimentations I'll collate some of it and post it in tips.
