Dear community,
Im new here and to MythTV, i downloaded KnoppMyth 'R5A30.1' and the installation of it went ok. When i came to configuring the 'Video Source', I was a little confused, as i live in the UK Zaptoit isnt a option. So i choose UK from the list and give it a name 'Antenna'. When it goes and scans for channels it always crashes at 50%, well it goes directyly to 50% and doesnt respond to any keyboard commands. So i decided just to skip that bit?. For the cable frequency i choose 'Western Europe', and left the IP settings alone. Now I can go into the weather and check it out, so i know the internet connection is fine. The TV tuner is some Phillips one that i have borrowed, so i cant give much detail on that, only that its analogue, and the person i borrowed it from said it works with Linux. From knowing these sketchy details i chose my card type as 'Standard V4l capture card'. When i go to 'Watch TV, a blue box appears with a message ' Cannot locate back end server . . . Is the IP correct or there at all? . I really dont have a clue what do, sorry if this has already been posted but i tried the search with no luck.
Thanks , I just hope i was clear enough

for the video source bit, whn it gets to 50% press Alt+Tab to switch to the terminal window, you will be askd a few questions about which channels you receive, then it will grab the data from the radio times website.
the backen possibly isnt running, which would make sense, as you've not fnised the setup yet, since you haent finished setting up a video source, etc.
(i'm a newbie too, and only have experience with my dvb-s card)

Hi,
I just got MythTv up and working, which is running great i might add. Thanks for the help. The only problem i have is with the video. When you press 'Watch TV', its GREEN. I get all the info about the channel, but its all green with some movement at the top (it kind of shudders) . I can record it fine but when i go to watch the recordings its just GREEN aswell.
Thanks for the help

I'm not claiming to be an expert, but here's what I think, so far...
I would guess that you are getting channel information because you've used the internet to download your listings.
You've still got to set your channels correctly. 'Fraid as I use DVB-T tuner I don't know how to sort the rest of it out.

Ok, thanks for the bit of helpfull info. Can you suggest how i can Set the channels. As it's analogue and around here you get the five basic channels. BBC 1 , BBC 2, ITV , S4C and Five . When setting up the guide i only choose those five, they appear in the guide fine.
Thanks for your help !

Having had a quick look around on the internet (I googled some of the terms around "mythtv setup uk analogue"... and it's a damn shame the wikki's down) from your initial post I guess you've tried to follow the guide, so that leaves you somewhere west of nowhere.
As I said, I can't offer advice on this directly, but search for posts on similar subjects. In fact there was one on a similar theme a while back for someone in Sweden (? brain's not working... long day at work) which I mistakenly replied to thinking it was a DVB-T question. From what I recall they did find a soloution.
My advice: go with freeview. A Nova-T card is only £60 and you get all those lovely extra channels! I could help you with setting that up.
Sorry I could not to be more helpful.

Thanks for the help,
Ill have a look into older posts and see if I can find anything, i think Freeview is the way to go. But is this possible i have NTL cable tv, with a lota progs. Would i be able to connect my MythTV box to the NTL box somehow to record programs etc. Instead of using an arial to get my progs, if this is even possible.
Thanks

I guess you should be able to hook up NTL, lots of people in posts i've seen are hooking up to cable (albeit in the USA). But DVB cards do come in a number of flavours: DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C. I would think for NTL you would be wanting a DVB-C card, but I am unsure of how successful people have been with them or how well they are supported under knoppmyth. There are a number of threads about these DVB-C cards being a little tricky to set up, but there appears to be some success.
You could try!

Update:
I have got all the channel listings sorted now, there are all correct. Now when i go to 'Watch TV'. The starting channel is '3', then the icon pops up telling me what the program is that seems to be a bit distorted like it need's anti aliasing. However the screen is GREEN with movement at the top, then it goes slightly black and 'fuzzy'. Also flicking channels isnt great, doesnt seem to be responding much ?. As ideas , please post them here
Thanks
