I have moved my pics from my digital camera to the gallery folder in directorys based on the date of the photo. This is all well and good but the date of the folder doesn't tell me much so I also have created a folder for my Brothers family and one for my Sisters family and so forth. I want to make symlinks from the family folders to the actual photos in the date based folders because many photos belong in 2 or more folders so why waste the space of duplicating the photo. The problem I have is that Myth Gallery doesn't seem to be able to view the photo at the other end of the symlink. When I do ls -l the symlink shows owner, group and others all to have rwx permisions and the actual files are owner and group mythtv. If I go to the folder with the actual jpg files they show fine but the folders with the links show no thumbnails and no way to view the pics.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Not sure, you could try hard links instead?
