I'm about to purchase an HDTV, and recently found out that it is difficult to get the DVI output on NVidia cards to work properly with 1080i output.

I've read the WIKI on the subject, and I know that a lot of people are having success converting VGA to component through use of the Audio Authority 9A60.

I have an MSI NX6200TC, which has Y, Pb, Pr outputs. I was just wondering, has anyone gotten these to work yet? or is it so difficult and time consuming that I'm better off just buying the 9A60. If it is not a big deal to get the NVidia components to work, I'd like to use them, but if it is going to be a complete nightmare, I'd rather just spend the $130.

I've heard the 6600's are fairly easy to get working with the 8??? drivers. I'm sure the 6200's are the same, though 6200 support was only added in like the last driver release or two, so I haven't heard any reports.

The 8xxx series breaks 1080i. Everyone says goes with 7676. Which drivers are included in the new Knoppmyth (0.19) release?

At the end of the thread you linked, they point out that this problem is fixed in 8178. They're talking about component out directly from the cards as well, not DVI or VGA. Mind you, the 7xxx series had a "wraparound" problem with 1080i that resulted in an unusable screen on VGA, and I believe on DVI as well (but component worked OK, until the 8xxx series was started ).

I'd bet money that the next release comes with the 7676 drivers since this is what's officially recommended by the 0.19 release notes.

In the end, I think your choices come down to using the 6629 driver, or the 8178, since you're considering DVI or VGA at 1080i. Despite what the release notes say, I've managed with the 8178 drivers pretty well for some time now, so long as you turn off 'Opengl sync to vblank' in the tv playback settings.

You might also want to consider getting a hdtv that can do 720p natively. It's a lot less work for you, the comp, and looks better (to me anyway).

the problem I've found with 720p (any p) for that matter is that you have to turn on deinterlace to play 480i or 1080i content. With 1080i I can turn of deinterlace, and 480i 720p and 1080i all look perfect.

I can see how turning off deinterlacing can make life easier for your CPU, but I assume it still has to interlace a 720p signal. (or is interlacing much easier than deinterlacing?)

well deinterlace seems to take more CPU, but even if it didn't 1080i contains more data than 720p, so even if they were equal it would still take more CPU.

Hang on to your $130, at least for right now. I'm using component output on a PNY Verto 6200 and have no complaints.

Currently I'm running 480p because I haven't found a suitable modeline to use with my Panasonic plasma. That's my only real issue, and I don't believe it's card related.

You've got nothing to lose, and my hunch is that your hardware is going to work.

I believe that I have a working KnoppMyth R5A30.2 using a motherboard with the integrated NVidia 6150 video to component out to my Toshiba HDTV.

It was a real bear and took several months of struggling, but it does work. The only thing that I have left to do is try to adjust the display so that less is cutoff in the overscan. Most everything that I try to adjust doesn't really change the overscan any.

One BIG key was to turn off the Sync to VBlank option in the Nvidia-settings program and get it to stick between reboots.

However, I would NOT recommend the motherboard that I bought and would recommend the MSI one instead.

Hardware:
Gigabyte K8N51PVMT-9 (integrated passively cooled video, audio, LAN)
AMD Athlon64 3200+ (appears that cool 'n' quiet isn't quite right yet)
2x 512MB PC3200 memory
300 GB Seagate drive
pcHDTV 3000 HDTV tuner (do not use pcHDTV 3000 option in setup, use DVB instead)
