Has anyone seen this problem. Occasionally when I try to delete a recording, MythTV appears to lock up. I have to restart X to get back in. If I reboot entirely, then I can delete.

When I had this problem it's because there was a problem with the backend server, perhaps it went down or something, not really sure. A fix is to restart the backend server and the frontend. Thats what is happening when you reboot anyway. I have a script associated with the power button on my remote to kill the frontend and restart it. I do have to manually restart the backend though.

I've been thinking about trying to find a programmatic way to tell when the backend goes into that state and restart it automatically, but haven't had a chance yet.

I encounter this problem fairly regularly, a few times a month, and my workaround is just to reboot (restarting the backend as mentioned above).

Sometimes I have the same problem trying to delete recordings on my R5A30.2 with a Hauppgage PVR350. If I am very paitient and wait for a couple of minutes I get the error that the backend is not running. I reboot the machine to get evrything up again.
Since I am not were well into Linux I don't know how to find out what exactly brings the backend down. Does anybody know a way that I can find out why the backend processes stops.

I didn't have this problem on my earlier versions of Knoppmyth R5A16 and up.
