Don't get overly excited about the latest .19 release of MythTV. It introduced some new strange bugs and I expect another month or so before they're squashed. One thing is during a live tv pause, when you unpause the video plays at half speed, while the audio stays in sync (frame dropping). Pausing again and unpausing doesn't always fix it, but fast forwarding (or skipping) fixes it.

It's a big update, I'm sure there will be more things like this in the future. The two things I love the most are the improved live tv buffer and the onscreen keyboard for the dialog boxes...how did we ever do without it.

Back to lirc and the dreaded irblaster...

You can just go to the lirc sources thoughtfully installed in /usr/src and unpack them then do a configure which brings up a menu. Select your com port and then say software generated and transmit and it will create a serial lirc_serial for you. You'll want to save your ledxmitd.conf file which has the remote configuration for the device you're controlling (in my case the echostar using jvc_raw).

I believe the new forthcoming version of Knoppmyth makes this even easier by simply having a configuration script. (You'll still need to save your config file though then put it in the appropriate place under the /etc directory.) So you might want to wait a bit 'till it's out.

Definitely pack up your /etc in a different partition and then restore separate files as needed via a tar -xvf etc.tar etc/filename type command.

Good luck.

"Changes will be lost"
1. Am I to understand that nothing in /myth will be lost?
2. Can I move things I don't want to loose /myth?
3. Are all the DBs and things I need to maintain TV recordings and DVD rips kept on /myth?

Please tell me, can I keep my media across an upgrade?

If you couldn't, what would be the point of an upgrade? Backup and reboot with CD in the drive, then select auto upgrade.
