Don't wanna bother, but what does very soon mean? Is it a matter of hours, days, or weeks?

Be sure i dont wanna hurry you. Its just the information im am interested in. if you say it will take another month it's ok, too.

It would be very Interesting if there were a possibility of some looking where you hang on, like the MythTV Guys do it on:

http://cvs.mythtv.org/trac/roadmap

So we can see where we can help, or where we can see where the Problems are.

Where is the main point to look, or the roadmap?

That would be helpfull, not only for us

Napalm,
I'm guessing that they are waiting for .19.1 to be released. Apparently there were a few bugs in .19 so they will probably wait until the worst have been fixed before putting out a new release.

Check out the .19.1 release notes on the mythtv wiki to see what has been fixed so far.

no the initial public beta will most likely not wait for the 0.19.1 release. the R5 final release will.

Especially since subversion has the fixes branch so easily accessible. I'm guessing that was why there was never a followon to .18.1 even though the fixes piled up, because if people want them they can go the fixes branch way.

Don't be angry on me, but none of you answered my question. Is it a matter of hours, days, weeks or months, until the public beta will be released?

Nobody is angry on you, but the short answer is "what does it matter?" The current version R5A30.2 is perfectly useable, stable and satisfying to use, so there should be nothing holding you back from installing it now. When the next version is as good and ready and bug-free as a public beta can ever hope to be, it will be released. And you will be easily able to upgrade from R5A30.2

Hi Raplh:yes, you are right. But i was interested what it would mean when they allways say 'soon'. Soon translated into my nativ language implements something like within the next 2-4 days. Or at least i think so.

And, no, the actual knoppmyth version does not work out of the box with my dvb-s card and 0.19 has a lot of new features for dvb-s.

And i said, 'don't be angry on me' as i knew it might start a discussion like that. i really don#t want to hurry anybody. i am only interested in what 'soon' might mean.

regards Mirko

Well I think we all expected it to happen sooner, but the testers have been doing a good job uncovering little problems that we want to fix before a public release. Soon means about what you think, but it is contingent on not finding other problems. We probably though it was just as soon a few weeks ago, so please stop asking. It will be released when cesman decides it is ready, and that depends on the results of testing.

That was a mistake IMO. People wanting to stick with the 'official' released code were left out in the cold for too long. There should have been regular point releases.

but this is a discussion for mythtv not Knoppmyth...

I'm keen to get hold of 0.19 for the improved mythgame interface (I should be able to drop in any emulator)

So what would you prefer? Which would upset people more?
1. To set a target date and then miss that target date because something is taking longer to be fixed than planned. (Now it turns into #3 anyway)
2. To release something too early and lots of people will download it and run it and then there are 1,000's of broken systems (Now this turns into #3 also)
3. To release it when it is ready and heavily tested.

If you check Gossamer threads you you will see posts of people having problems. Alot of them are the same problems or variances of the same problem. That is what the testers are dealing with too.
LiveTV and many other parts went through a major rewrite, not to mention the new version of ivtv that changed alot too.
Knoppmyth was created so that you know it will install a SOLID and WORKING mythtv. To acheive that takes time. If you are in a hurry to use .19 (we all are!) there are quite a few posts on how to do it yourself (and inherit the problems too).
As for an updating testing/status webpage, I'd much rather have the testers fix the problems than spending that time updating a webpage. All of them have jobs, families, and therefore very limited time.

Just my 2 (or 3) cents....

Well stated, elgordo123. People that have developed for commercial systems become schedule oriented and meeting schedule deadlines becomes paramount regardless of product quality. Without attempting to generalize and at least on this project, cesman's goal is to provide a quality system that is easy to install. When there is a lot of change, as there is with MythTV version 0.19, many things need to "get ironed out". Developers, like other folk, are not perfect (yet), and there happens to be a great variance in the hardware to support - what with the different tuner cards, transmission approaches ota, cable, dvb & sd/hd, and then there is the different video cards, etc, etc. Give the folks time. It could save _you_ some time and much headache.
Well, I've said too much already.
