These are not "for dummies" types of questions. you won't find clear easy to find docs on how to do this stuff for windows either.

I understand what most of the industry columnists mean now when they write that Linux won't be ready for primetime until it has friendlier installers and better docs.

We've done everything we can to make the installer as easy as possible. The only time you have to worry about any of the above type questions is when you decide you want to install on non recommended hardware. And I think you'll find that other linux distributions do not have the harddrive limitations that knoppmyth does. It was written that way to make things easy back when SATA was not the primary type of hd interface. I'm sure everyone agrees that this needs to be looked at for long term, but there are too many other things to focus on right now, and I don't think I've seen a single motherboard that doesn't accept pata still and the drives are readily available, so it's not like the recommended hardware is overly obscure.

Just a couple of pennies here.

The responses above are energetic.
I for one am glad that Knoppmyth was built to run on "Older" hardware, not everyone can afford the Latest some say "and the Greatest" hardware. Besides with a couple steps bakc in Hardware versions, there are some really great deals out there....

Regarding the searching of multiple Wikis, forums, and Google for answers. It can be tough, but then if it were M$ it would almost certainly work out of the box, with your Latest hardware, and would cost a pretty penny too. For all the rest of us, there is this project and all of these great resources that do have the information if one is willing to take the time (a lot of it at times) I guess you get what you pay for.

As far as cleaning up the information, I think it was XSecrets that is suggesting work over in the Wiki to straighten some of this out. There was a thread running here on that subject.
Basically the Wikis and the Forum read like a whole bunch of people putting a lot of effort into making this work for themselves and hopefully for others. I think that is great!

Anyway, I spent way more than two pennies here. To the Development team many thanks. I'll take the learning approach compared to spending tons of cash to get something that operates marginally as functional as KM.

to all others, Invest some time in helping to clean up the docs, chances are if you are having trouble understanding it most likely so are others...

From the road somewhere in NV.. Resorting to Video Tapes for my favorite shows right now......Ugggh!
