I have just put together my first multi tuner machine using a pvr-500 and a wintv-401 with r5a30.2. My problem is that the machine keeps using the 401 as the default tuner for recording. From what I can see this happens when the cards are first detected during boot, also during mythsetup when I try to make the pvr-500 dev0 or dev1 the input section goes blank and won't let me change it until I make dev0 a v4l card. The pvr-500 is installed in slot 1 and the 401 is in slot 2, can someone help me change this I would like the 401 to be the last card used to record.

This has nothing to with which card is detected first. MythTV uses the first card defined in the setup. So, if you want to use the 500, define one of it tuners first. The 401 should be defined last...

I cleared all of the capture card settings last night by running mythtv-setup, in the capture card setup page I set the card type to mpeg encoder card, I left the video device set to /dev/video0 and moved down to change the default input to the tuner from the pvr 500. the default input was already set to television which is the input from the 401. when I try to change the default input, the tuner from the pvr 500 ( tuner0) isn't an option I also went thru the video device section to see if the 401 (television) input showed up anywhere else and it didn't so I left default input set to television. moved on to set up /dev/video1 and set the card type to mpeg encoder card, video device to /dev/video1 and the default tuner section changes to tuner0 which as i said is the tuner pvr 500 and then I set up /dev/video2. I set the card type to standard v4l capture card, video device to /dev/video2 and the default tuner to tuner 0 because the 401 input (television ) isn't an option. when I was finished as a test I set it up to record a bunch of shows and it still uses the 401 as the first card out the three choices it has available. I was under the impression that the dev/video was what would choose the order that the cards where used am I wrong?

I had a similar issue on an older release... Try reversing the PCI slots the boards are currently in... Then run Mythtv-setup, clear the cards, select the PVR500 first...

If that doesn't work, remove the 401, setup the machine with the pvr500 and get it like you want it. Then shut the machine down, insert the 401, start it and go thru mythtv-setup. I don't remember the specifics around why this happened, just that it fixed it for me...

I forgot to mention what made me think this was happening during detection. I have already set the machine up with just the pvr 500 and r530.2, I had the pvr setup as /de v/video0 and /dev/video1 and the machine worked great. I shut it down and installed the 401 restarted and the machine the first thing I noticed was during detection even having the pvr already installed, the first card detected was the 401 then the 500. when the machine went into setup, I didn't clear the card settings because I didn't want to loose the pvr as /dev/video0 and dev/video1. I added the 401 as /dev/video2 and thought I would be all set, nope the machine used the 401 as the first card every time. I have tried r5a30 and r5a26 with the same results always the 401 first and I just finished switching the cards with the 401 in slot 1 and the pvr in slot 2 I cleared the card settings and still I am forced to hook /dev/video0 and the input from the 401 (television) together.

- R5B7 includes ivtv 0.4.3.

- Ivtv 0.4.3 changes the naming of PVR-150 and PVR-500 tuners.

- If you are upgrading from a previous version you will need to go into mythtv-setup, under "Capture cards", clear all devices, and create them.

- After you do this, don't forget to fix the "Input connections" .

- Don't forget to restart the backend.

Cecil - It might be a good idea to put up a "Upgraders, please be aware of..." message with the announcement. I can see this and the /dev/hda4 ->/dev/hda3 thing biting a lot of naive uses when they upgrade...

I just did a clean install of r5b7 and am now stuck at the setup page. No matter what the card type is set to, if I try to change the video device to anything but /dev/video0 it says that it could not open /dev/video1 ( or whatever device number I am trying to open) to probe it's inputs.

Check your messages log as per http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles and see if all the cards are being detected. Using lspci should also show you some relevant info.

You should also ensure ivtv isn't in /etc/modules.

cesman, sorry I didn't see your post before I put the last one up. I checked /etc/modules and found ivtv, commented it out and reran mythtv-setup.I still wasn't able to separate /dev/video0 and the 401's input (television) but went on with setup anyway. I scanned for channels in the input connections section and then ran mythfilldatabase, restarted the computer. now when i select watch tv from the menu the screen goes black for about thirty seconds then goes back to the menu.

I don't think you can comment things out in that file, I think you have to delete them.

here's the latest attempt. I installed just the pvr 500 with a fresh install of r5b7, setup dev/video0 and dev/video1 with the input from the pvr ( tuner), and all worked very well. Recorded a couple of shows and was happy, then shut it down and installed the 401. When the machine came back up it went into setup again, I opened up the new card screen and found that once again dev/video0 and the input from the 401 (television) are tied together and can't be setup any other way. Where is this comming from, is it a driver issue?

It's an order of module loading thing. Sometimes the BTTV driver will roach the detection for the ivtv drivers, I haven't needed to dig into it beyond that point. Search for threads that talk about renaming some of the v4l or tuner modules (.ko files) so as to only leave the prefered ones. That might get you some relief.
