Hello All,

Is this possible to do (output of same image to both VGA and TV) with onboard video and a PVR-350? Everything I've seen thus far points to getting an nvida card. My TV-out works great thus far, but would like to have the frontend displayed on my VGA monitor for easy setup. Mirroring would be fine.

Running R5A30.2 Knoppmyth off a prebuilt older system (P3 933, 192MB ram) with Intel-based onboard video.

Thanks for the suggestions thoughout the fourms to help me get set up thus far. I feel like something of this nature is feasible, but lack your expertise to know the method. Sadly, I don't have the cash to buy an old PCI nvida atm - it's not that I want to be difficult :)

I'm pretty sure that mirroring the 350 fb on the VGA is not possible, but you could try and set up the VGA as an additional (non-mirrored) display. However, if its just for setup (ie no watching) and SSH/mythweb doesn't suffice, then it sounds like VNC or X11 forwarding would be options as well?

Thank you for your very quick reply, Nickread!!

Yes, it's just for setup, changing settings on the front end, that kind of thing. Sadly, while I can SSH into the box, I don't know what you're referring to in using mythweb for this kind of thing. I thought that was a just an internet browser.

As for "VNC" and "X11 forwarding," I am in the dark there, as well. Those terms haven't come up on any of my searches (and I've been at this for 5 days now).

Care to enlighten a Linux idiot about these things? (hopefully just not an idiot in general...)

Great. Mythweb allows you to check listings, recorded programs, schedule recordings etc. Its a website hosted on your knoppmyth box, which you can access using a browser from another PC.

Ah, yes. Again, did some searching, found an answer with your terms. Thanks Nick!

You can get the desired behavior in R5B7 by setting it to display on the monitor (that is, don't switch on TV out by any means), but in the mythfrontend configs, choose "Use PVR-350 to display" under the TV settings.

The problem with that is you won't have a user interface to interact with on the TV.
