Open up the case, verified everything was inserted tightly, then hot-booted the machine and its up and working now. Pretty weird, but i guess its gone for now?

Upgrade to R5B7 and see if the problem goes away. My guess is that it will.

(looking at google results for that kernel panic, leads me to believe that it is not a hardware issue)

Sounds like a possible heat issue. Wouldn't be surprised if your hard drive was heading out to lunch (wiht no plans of returning..). Don't you read the announcements?

In the announcement i was linked to i heard no mention of the hard drive, could you link me to where this was mentioned? I really hope my 320gb didn't die on me considering it was full of unbacked up content

You asked when the release was released. That would be in the announcement.

While running the hard drive doesnt sound right to me. Normally you here a very quite spin, this makes quite a loud click ilke something internally is restarting. I'm going to assume it's the hard drive. I bought a "Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB" Let's read some newegg comments

"My first negative experience with Western Digital Hard Drives. This one gave me an "unmountable_boot_volume" error after numerous WIN XP setup file installation attempts. The hardrive was detected, th... More ยป
e setup files where installed, but it wouldn't reboot to contine instalation. I called WD and determined faulty HD. I love WD, but think twice about this particular model. Newegg was professinal with the return process."

"thing crapped out on me making loud noises about a month and a half after purchasing it."

"Manufacturer Warranty 3-Year"
Atleast i get my warranty. I'm going to run the HD utility just incase this isnt the problem but i feel like it must be.

WD HD diagnostic tool says it's good on both the quick and full legnth tests. However it sounds bad, won't boot, and when trying to upgrade i get error '1024'
