I'm just about to do a reinstall of a knoppmyth box - hardware changes and a fair few version jumps, fresh install seems best way to go - and I was curious as to how other people install their boxes.

I have always installed my knoppmyth boxes hooked up to a monitor on my desk, then at a later date moved it to the lounge to setup svideo/tvout. One of the reasons is that when I'm configuring I like to have a decent screen to work with and I'm not hogging the tv.

I was thinking that maybe this time I should install hooked up to the tv to begin with? I can always use vnc so that I don't hog the tv to configure / setup myth fully.

What do you guys do?

I upgraded (auto upgrade) 2 boxes to R5B7 from R5A15.1 (a mbe/fe and a fe only), both of which were done without using a monitor. I simply booted the cd, typed tv at the prompt, and completed the typical auto upgrade scenario. Neither machine had any problem using the tv. Most all of my post-install tweaks were done via ssh from a 'normal' pc with a monitor, so the tv wasn't tied up while I was tweaking.

Not enough choices. I have two boxes both get upgraded/installed using tvout. one via svideo the other via DVI->HDMI.

ah sorry, clearly my low-techness has blinded me to the other options I should have put in. :P

DVI to me is a stupid port that I have to get a converter for so I can use my monitor...... maybe it's time for an upgrade ....
