You're missing the requested info from the messages log. Also you never told us what you think your hardware is. The system clearly thinks your card is a PVR-250. Is it? Or is this a case of a misidentified PVR-150? If you'd supplied either piece of information you'd already have a better answer... :? You're making this harder than it should be...

You need to become root to access those. See the LinuxTips page on the wiki for details. A couple other things...

1) Why do you have the bitrates and resolution jacked up so high?

2) "Video input = 6" isn't right. Did you do something silly and associate the "Video Source" with all othe inputs? Don't do that. It's supposed to be on the tuner only. After all, that's the one that's connected right?

3) If you've got it hooked up some other way than from the wall directly (modulo a splitter or other passive device) into the tuner input on the PVR-250 card it would REALLY help if you told us. Otherwise you're wasting everyones time.

1. I haven't touch the bits or resoulution yet.

2. I just have the Tuner associated with the Svideo 0, and have the input go through that.

3. I have a splitter, I apologize, didn't know that was important.

Also, I am trying to get into /var/log/messages as root, but it still says access denied.

Well somebody did because what your card is reporting aren't the usual defaults.

What? I think you're very confused. Unless you're pulling an April Fools joke on me... :? Let's go through this one step at a time.

- If you are using the tuner on the PVR-250 card you should have a coax cable that comes more or less directly out of the wall, and connects to the coax connector near the top of the card. The only other connection you should have to that card is the remote control dongle plugged into the small black socket at the bottom of the card. There shouldn't be anything attached to the svideo input, the composite input (yellow RCA phono jack), or the audio input (1/8" stereo mini jack).

- Under input connections you need to associate the tuner with the "Video Source". "Video source" is really, really badly chosen name for your program lineup. See the directions in this thread: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=55067

- If you are trying to use a Cable box please say VERY CLEARLY AND VERY EXPLICITLY - "I am trying to connect my cable box". You still haven't confirmed or denied this. The two problems are radically different.

Did I garble the sentence? With the exception of passive devices. In other words, are the only things between the KnoppMyth box and the wall the necessary cabling and passive cabling connectors (like a splitter)??? What I'm concerned with here is that you're cabling does NOT run through a cable or satellite box, or any other active device like a VCR, or ...

You're doing something wrong. Get an Xterm, type su - and hit enter. Enter the root password when prompted. The command prompt should change to end with a # rather than a $ Cut and paste this command from the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles page:
Code:
sed -n '/= START INIT IVTV/,/=  END INIT IVTV/p' </var/log/messages | more
and make sure that your browser didn't mangle the characters, especially the quotes or spaces.

First, I have the Svideo connect coming from the video card, to the tv. I am not trying to connect threw the cable box, unless I need to to get the digital signals from my digital box. I have it going this way

Wall-Splitter- KnoppMyth Box on one end, Cable box on other.

NO. See the link I just added above. Follow those directions.

I think your big problem was misunderstanding what the "input connection" did. (It tells the software what input to look for and tune certain channels on.) What you had it trying to do was tune from the Svideo input instead of the connected tuner input. Sort that out and the card should work. You may have to try the different frequency tables that's more or less trivial. All your other settings and logs look OK.

Now for some reason it won't grab the tv listings from Zap2It. I made a new account because the other one was expired, and it still won't grab the listings. The machine has an internet connect, and can be pinged from other machines. WHY WON'T ANYTHING WORK!!!!!!!

Not pissed off (emphatic doesn't imply angry). ;) Short on sleep and PC problems at this end. :(

No simple ideas on the zap2it DLs, other than they may be limiting the number of retries to something like 2 per day. Search the forums for "can't get/download program guide" and topics like that.

Retries as in by IP? or retries as in email or something. Ive tried over the last couple of days with new accounts.

I don't think they have any limit on retries as I know I've downloaded my guide data 5 to 6 times in an hour or two span when fighting problems before.

can you ping stuff by name (like google.com) from your mythbox?
