This semi-permanent recording of LiveTV is illogical and IS creating problems

Actually it's a feature, and one that they put a fair amount of effort into. I won't go into the details here since you can find them if you search. Suffice to say I quite enjoy not missing the last 10 minutes of something I was watching behind realtime when a scheduled recording grabs the tuner.

Point taken. Sorry about my rant I, anger got the better of me. I had been away for a day and came back to a myth box with a crashed backend and several livetv recordings on the drive from my flat mate browsing channels. DVB-T in Australia takes up much HDD space. I hardly ever use livetv. I'll do some more tests and figure this one out.

You can put pretty agressive clean up rules in place for live TV... I'll have to double check but I think you can restrict how much stuff it keeps as well as the max lifetime.

Is it possible to downgrade knoppmyth to a previuos version until this problem gets sorted out? I had no problems with 5a22 but tv is nearly unwatchable in 5b7.

If TV is unwatchable I don't think you are talking about the same problem since all we are talking about is an extra 2 sec or so for starting TV or switching channels.

Also from what tjc has said I doubt that the issue will get "sorted out" as they made the change as a feature to increase the buffer size and reduce problems on hdtv.

There was mention in one of the links of crashing and being unwatchable but was ok if you looked at the recordings, which is basically the problem I have - so I thought it was related.
