Yes, but I think it's 'relatively normal' behavior..

in addition "very long" really doesn't tell us much. I've know people that 1/2 sec is very long to them, and others that 30sec is not too slow. I would say that anything over 10sec or so is most likely some sort of problem and not 'relatively normal'

I'm using R5B7 and I dont see a long pause. It takes about 5-7 seconds for me. It has to buffer 3 seconds. Then probably 2-3 seconds to get the picture. Not really a problem for me unless I'm channel surfing. I watch live tv via myth all the time.

I think the big reason people have brought this up is that on a good system now it takes 5-7 sec where on 0.18.1 it only to 3-4 sec. I'm not really sure what the issue is. I can actually get closer to realtime on a recording than livetv even though they are basically the same thing. I don't watch livetv all that often, so it's not a huge deal for me.

I think they made the buffering more conservative to work better with HDTV.

I haven't noticed this, but looking at the logs it seems to be taking 13s to start up. When it finally starts, there is 10s of prebuffering.

What is really interesting is that it seems to take two tries connect to the ringbuffer. There is a "Switching from LiveTV to none" in the middle. (I'm assuming this log is for simply starting LiveTV and doesn't contain a subsequent channel change)

My guess is that you've stumbled on a race condition in LiveTV. It might be processor speed related as not everyone is seeing it. You might want to go search the mythtv mailing lists.

[Disclaimer: I may not know what I'm talking about  ]

Cheers,

Allen
