Hi all,

i've installed the latest version of knoppmyth on an abit NF7, with a radeon 9500 pro video card and had it working extremly well on my moniter.

i've decided to try the move to TV output and after a few hiccups and following this thread http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 09&start=0 i had a crystal clear picture showing on my TV.

but...

its too big! the tv shows about an 8th of the total screen, it looks like the PC is trying to display at 1280 * 1024 and is being limited by the TV output. i have experimented in a very hamfisted way with trying to force the XF86Config-4 file to display a maximum of 640 *480 but it doesn't seem to work. I'm wondering if the instructions above mean i need to edit a different file (it wasn't clear) or if i'm not commenting out the right lines?

any tips? thanks

dicki

Read the X log file, and make sure that your virtual resollution is the same as your display resolution. It would help if you posted your XF86Config-4 file so that we could provide corrections.

i'm afraid i'm a complete linux newbie so you'll need to tell me where this log file is and what its called before i can find that out.

below is the monitor and display sections of the XF86Config-4 file as i said it was a hamfisted attempt. basically i removed all references to any resolution higher than 640 * 480.

thanks

dicki

Fix this bit:
Quote:
Option "Mode2" "800x600"

You also need to fix the:
Quote:
HorizSync 30.0 - 107.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 75.0

to be a TV safe:
Code:
HorizSync 30 - 50
VertRefresh 60 - 60

Nothing else jumps out at me just now... There is a wiki page on how to check logfiles here:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles

just to confirm when you say "fix" the mode2 line you mean change it to 640*480? i'll do it now and report back :)

thanks

Identifier "aticonfig Screen 0"
Device "ATI Graphics Adapter 0"
Monitor "aticonfig Monitor 0"
DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
        Viewport 0 0
        Depth 24
        [b]Modes "640x480"[/b]
    EndSubSection
EndSection
[/b]

That's why I wrote that page. I got tired of repeating the same information over and over. Now I just post the link over and over... ;-)
