The picture for my MythTV is visible but not very sharp. The picture is grainy and the colors are a little bit off. I am using a:

PcHDTV 3000 with a Chaintech GeForce FX 5200

I have my system set up for "us-cable" frequency but I don't know if this means HRC or IRC. Is there anyway to switch between the two? Or does anyone know of a fix for the poor picture quality?

Are you recording HD channels? If so, it should look perfect. How do the thumbnails on Mythweb look? How about the thumbnails on the list of shows?
Are you outputting to an HDTV? DVI or Component? What's the resolution of the modeline, as reported in /var/log/XFree86.0.log?

If he is trying to record HD, he is going about it the wrong way. For HD, he'd need to use the DVB driver. He has the card hooked up to his cable or so it would appear. You can try either HRC or IRC. If you are trying to do QAM, again you need to use DVB.

All reports are that these cards are very poor as NTSC YUV capture cards, even though they supposedly have that capability. You should probably stick to using them to capture ATSC from either QAM (cable) or OTA (broadcast) signals.

I am not trying to record HD. I'm working with just regular old analog here.

Cesman I am trying to figure out how to switch between HRC and IRC but do not know how.

The resolution of my modelin seems to be 1024x768.

Did you search? Searching for hrc and irc turns up threads like this:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9424&highlight=uscablehrc
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9337&highlight=uscablehrc
Many of which include detailed field by field instructions for what to do in mythtv-setup.

Well I tested out both HRC and IRC signals. Neither improves the picture quality. HRC makes the picture black and white while IRC looks exactly the same. Any other thoughts? Or is EvilTwin right? I'm going to see if modifying my modeline works.

search back through some of the older stuff in the dtv forum. there are some threads about using the pchdtv3000 as an analog card. my experience has been it absolutely sucks and you get the color problems you are having, however there was I believe at least one other person who said they tweaked the heck out of it somehow and got decent picture.
