I have everything working except audio and after looking through the forums and googling it appears that audio is the biggest issue, but I have been unable to resolve anything from what I've read. Here are the current state of things. I am using a video capture card from an old Toshiba Infinia 7201 that is a bt848 (Raffles brand) from my research. The audio is connected internally from the 4 pin audio out on the card to the 4 pin audio in on the motherboard where my CDROM was connected.

Also, I should point out that I ripped a cd in MythTV and played it so the sound card is working find.

Here are the contents of my /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-1 btaudio
options bttv card=20 tuner=2 automute=0
options btaudio rate=32000 analog=1 digital=1

In alsamixer -V all

I have the capture set to CD and it also muted.


If I run xawtv to get video up and then run aplay /dev/dsp I get static through te speakers.

does the card not have an audio out jack that you can plug into linein. It may be a little more possible to yank the cord out, but you'll have a setup more in line with 99.5% of the people using v4l cards

I attempted to do this as well and it didn't seem to work. I plugged the cord from the capture card to the line in on the sound card, and in alsamixer I set the capture to Line. What should the settings in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv look like when using this method? Also, doing this method would only allow me to have one tv capture card, which is fine for now, but in the future I would like to add another (If I can get this working of course first.)

Try posting the output from dmesg. If btaudio is working you wont need to use the line in on your soundcard.

You can check if the audio is being output correctly from the tv card by plugging speakers or headphones directly into the tv card. This way you can make sure it is working properly before you investigate the "middle men".

Thanks for the reply. I hooked my speakers up to the line out and started up xawtv and aplay and still got nothing. Below is the output from dmesg (Thanks for the help):

Does it have something to do with the audio driver bt878 being loaded? I thought the card was a bt848.

Well after Googling, and googling, and googling I finally got the audio going. For anyone else using tan old Toshiba Infinia 7201 caputure card here is a link the where I found the information.

you need to add these options to the bottom of your /etc/mythv/modules/bttv file

I finally transferred my setup from computer speakers and a monitor to a TV. The music audio comes through just fine, but tv audio comes out of only one of the speakers (obviously only mono then) and the audio is fairly crackly. Does anyone have any suggestions to correct this?
