Hi All,

Just wondering what the best way is to uncompress the KNOPPIX file on the R4v2 CD.

Can I just boot from the cd and then exit out of the install. When I do this there is a /KNOPPIX filesystem that is accessible. It is my understanding that this is the same as the /cdrom/KNOPPIX file and that it is being uncompressed at mount time by a utility called cloop.

If I copy this /KNOPPIX filesystem to a read/write file system, can I then make changes to the files and then compress them back into a new KNOPPIX file.

Thanks for any replies,
jpummill2

There is already another discusion about this. The best place to learn about that would probably be the knoppix site/forums. If however you modify knoppmyth and want to redistribute you have to remove the hauppage windows drivers.

I have been looking at the knoppix forumns. I will keep working on it.

Also, I don't want to redistribute. I just want to add some options and then test them before I submit them back to cesman.

Follow the instructions in the HOW-TO. That is how I remastered.

I think the url for that page is now http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Knoppix_Remastering_Howto#Setting_up_for_Remastering

The thing that confuses me is the first step, "Boot from the Knoppix CD". Do you actually do this? I would hate to have to boot from a CD every time I want to develop. I have my Ubuntu system setup the way I like for developing. I can't imagine having to take the time to get vim tweaked out to my liking every time I start. My wife gives me very small pockets of time in which to geek out. I'd never get around to developing if I had to do this.

Cecil, am I missing something?

Sounds like you are in need of a new wife. ;) You don't need to boot from the CD everytime... I personally dedicate a box to dev. That box runs Knoppix/Kanotix.
