Hello everyone

When i try to "scan for channels" I get the message "failed to open card" followed by an floating point exception. I am using a Plextor TV402U.

Does anyone know how to fix this ?

You might want more details on what I did so here it is.

- Auto Install(I selected "use default i586 set". I dont know if that is correct but I dont think it is related to my problem)

During the setup I select the following.

1. General
Global Backend Setup
TV format : PAL-BG
VBI format : PAL teletext
Frequency table: Europe-west

2. Capture card
Capture card Setup
Card type : USB MPEG-4 encoder box (Plextor ConvertX, etc)
Default Input : Tuner

3. Video Sources
Video Source Setup
Videosource name : Kabeltv
XMLTV listing grabber : Denmark
Click "Finish" and ALT-tab to xterm.
Follow the XMLTV-setup
ALT-tab back to setup

Input Connections
[GO7007:/dev/video0] (Tuner)
Video source: kabeltv
I select "Fetch channels from Listing source"

ALT-tab to the xterm
I notice it says
“Connected to database ‘mytconverg’ at host: localhost
QComboBox:setCurrentItem: (unnamed) Index 1 out of range
QComboBox:setCurrentItem: (unnamed) Index 1 out of range
Using runtime prefix = /usr”
But I guess it is okay anyway since it continues with the download.
I am very patient and wait for “mythfilldatabase run complete”
ALT-tab back again

Hit FINISH but goes back to run “Scan for channels”
In "Scan type" it says “failed to open card”. I try to select Video Source. Setup exits and I get the following in the xterm:

“SelectSetting:setValue(): invalid index 31
SelectSetting:setValue(): invalid index 31
QComboBox:setCurrentItem: (unnamed) Index 1 out of range
/usr/local/bin/Knoppmyth-run: Line 369: 7531 floating point exceptionsu - $USERNAME –c sh –c “DISPLAY=:0.0 mythtv-setup””

I continue setting up mythweather with locale code “da” … is this the correct code for Denmark ? …I quess it might be DK or maybe 1030
Anyway looks like it starts updating xmltv….
The last line says “removing bad characters at /usr/bin/tv_grab_dk line” didnt have time to see the linenumber.

Mythtv start up.

I go to “Watch TV” but get only green static. Make sense since I didn’t succeed in “scan for channels”

System status – listing status – Mythfilldatabase ran but didn’t insert a …

I exit from mythtv and opens an xterm. Run Gorecord to verify that the Plextor is installed correctly … and it works just fine.

Any ideas about what I am doing wrong?

Did you shutdown the backend before entering mythtv-setup?

Setup is started automatic after first boot so I assume the backend is not started at this point.

Anyway I have tried stopping the backend manually and entering setup. Same thing happens.

I did get a little further but still lack sound and TV looks like slow-motion.

Any pointers to how I fix the playback-speed and the sound will be appreciated.

Here is what I did:

Auto Install

During the setup I select the following.

1. General
Global Backend Setup
TV format : PAL
VBI format : PAL teletext
Frequency table: Europe-west

2. Capture card
Capture card Setup
Card type : USB MPEG-4 encoder box (Plextor ConvertX, etc)
Default Input : Tuner

3. Video Sources
Video Source Setup
Videosource name : Kabeltv
XMLTV listing grabber : Denmark
Channel frequency table: europe-west
Click "Finish" and ALT-tab to xterm.
Follow the XMLTV-setup
ALT-tab back to setup

Input Connections
[GO7007:/dev/video0] (Tuner)
Name : Plextor Tuner
Video source: kabeltv
I select "Fetch channels from Listings source"

ALT-tab to the xterm
I am very patient and wait for “mythfilldatabase run complete”
ALT-tab back again

I DON’T scan for channels since it throws an exception; see the first post in this thread.

Hit FINISH

Channel Editor
For each channel I select:
Channel Number: Just the number that fits the order on my TV.
TV Format: PAL
Hit Next
Enter the frequency in Hz.
Hit ESC to Exit

MythTV starts up.

I go to Utilities/Settings->Setup->TV settings->Recording Profiles->USB Mpeg(Plextor ConvertX, etc).
I setup Default, Live TV, High Quality and Low Quality to 480x384. I know this should not be necessary but I don’t want to push my luck right now.

I go to Watch TV. I now get a picture but it does look like it is in slow motion and I am not getting any sound. If I playback a CD then I do get sound.

Any pointers to how I fix the playback-speed and the sound will be appreciated.

Best regards

Okay. I tried changing audio device to DSP0, DSP1, DSP2 and DSP3.

A bit strange but if I set it to DSP or DSP0 then TV plays at half speed and I get “NVP:AddAudioData():p3 Audio buffer overflow. Audio data lost” in the xterm. With DSP2 and DSP3 I get no Audio but TV plays at the correct speed.

I notice that even when Audio Device is set to DSP1 then the following lines appear in the XTERM.
Opening Audio Device
Opening OSS Audio Device /DEV/DSP

Shouldn’t that be /DEV/DSP1 since that is what I selected in the setup of the backend ?

Hi :-)

I think you have to look inside /dev directory ... /dev/dsp is a link to dev/dsp1 I think ... look to output of "dmesg |grep -i dsp" or "tail -n 300 /var/log/messages"

only use small character for /dev/dsp ... case sensitive names!

I have some strange problems sound with my siemens dvb-c card with analog module ... video running on analog channels ... no switch digital channels ... livetv no more video stops working noc quit with ESC :-( ... no restart because MythTV remembers last channel :-(
