I record smallville at 720x480i. If I play it back to my 16x9 HDTV at 1080i resolution without any zoom, it is properly positioned in my HDTV screen. If I then select "4:3 zoom" or "fill" to fill the screen, the picture enlarges but also shifts "upward" about 30%. ie: The bottom 30% of the screen is blank and the top 30% of the recording isn't visible.

This problem does not happen if I do the playback at 720p. This happens with nvidia driver versions 6629 and 8756.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Marc

Thanks for the suggestion. Alas, 16:9 zoom only zooms the "width" of the image -- it doesn't zoom the "height", so everything looks "stretched".

I've tried a few more experiments and here is what I am seeing:

1. If display is set to 1280x720 4x3 and "fill" both zoom correctly.

2. If display is set to 1920x1080 interlaced, zoom is incorrect with either libmpeg2 or ffpmeg placyback. Interestingly, the zoom works correctly if xvmc is turned on.

Did you ever figure out how to get your zoom working properly in 1080i? I have the same problem. It doesn't seem to be knoppmyth related either. I switched my box with my 1080i TV to ubuntu dapper and I still have your problem. I thought switching to ubuntu for that frontend might solve this problem among others.

I have to say I will be switching back to knoppmyth when myth .20 is working well, since ubuntu didn't solve this problem. I miss some of the nice custom touches.

No -- I never found a good solution to this, but due to other changes I've made it's no longer a relevant issue for me. Sorry I can't help you out on this.
