1) Yes, it records in the background. Mythbackend works with mysql and your hardware drivers to record what you have told it to.

2) By default, X is going to start up when you boot your system. I suppose in theory, you dont need X to run a backend only system, but I don't see the point in taking off X. What are you hoping to accomplish by not running X on the backend?

KnoppMyth is preconfigured for samba to share out your /myth directory so your other systems can access the files. You simply need to start samba to make that config active.

abrendel thanks for your reply, this is exactly the information i was looking for!

I just didnt know if when it recorded a show, would knoppmyth also play it to my monitor taking up more system resources.

As for not wanting to start X, it was just to conserve system resources as I am running this on a PIII 733 with a pvr-350. I was just trying to save as many resources as I could.

Also thanks for the info on samba being set on install! This should save me a lot of time sharing videos on my network.

as you have a 350, it handles encoding the video. This takes up very little system resources.
