The MediaMVP application is specific to that hardware (which includes a hardware MPEG2 decoder not present in virtually any PC or video card). So is MythRoku, which is an application that is specific to the Roku HD1000.

Neither of these applications are full implementations of MythTV: they let you connect to a MythTV backend, show listings of the MPEG2 recordings the backend made, and let you play them back.

Neither allow you to play back non-MPEG2 files normally copied by the user to /myth/video, which for some reason seems to be a crucial part of what you are looking for.

However, both are certainly diskless front ends, and both allow you to access recordings found on the MythTV backend.

The reason I want access to these files is so I can copy my kids DVD's to the HD(as well as VCR tapes) so I can keep the originals from being scratched/destroyed. Also, I have videos I have made myself(3D and family) that I would like to be able to access.

In terms of booting from CF, USB, etc. Those are things a motivated user should be able to do. Dale and I have talked from features we want include in future releases. The KnoppMyth development team is small, we cannot add every feature we want in one. Things take time.

As for your posts being deleted, it is because you included language I don't appreciate.

If you want to contribute, then contribute. Currently, I see you as nothing more than a foul mouth gadfly.

From my research these are not completely diskless, they have a firmware which can be updated and hacked.

As to playing DVDs on these get your head out of where ever it is and search, in five minutes I found this:

You know what, just delete this damn post. I asked for help before posting this topic. This thread was driven by the responses and/or lack thereof. If no one wants to help figure my issues out, then just say so.

Why delete it? I think it serves as a good example to people. Yes, you did ask for help. However the manner it which you asked was quite rude. So, rude that I deleted them. It is my belief that you started this thread as an attempt to rant about your perceived inadequacies about MythTV (KnoppMyth). Now that folks have counter posted and you are in a corner, you want to cry foul, take your ball and go home. Well, the ball is mine.

As I stated to folks in the past, you don't have to use KnoppMyth and you don't have to use the forum. I'm not telling you, you're not welcome. However, you do have to change your attitude. I won't tolerate it and as you can see other's wont either.

Harvic, stop making demands on the community and go find a way to help.


dont forget, these guys arent getting paid to do this, they do it because it is usefull to them. What is usefull to them, or "pefrect" to them, might not be usefull to you. Some of the features you are asking for are probally wasted hard disk space for the average user.



One of the biggest things that makes linux so great, is that you can make it do what you want, without asking for permission. You dont even have to be a programmer, you just need to know how to search google to find the tools you need to make it work. Everything you have asked for is possible without writing new code if you dig a bit.... by combining the work of other projects. Just becasue nobody has the time to hold your hand and create an automatic installer for YOUR VERY SPECIFIC requirments, doesnt mean that you cant do it yourself, or even start with the closest product you can find, and build it up to what you want using a combination of developers mailing lists, forms, and some of your own reserch from google.



My point is this: if you want it, do it. If you want help, dont ask for a full feature set...... take the best one you can find, and add ONE THING AT A TIME until you have what you really want. If you do, and you stick with it, you will be suprised at just how sucessfull you are, and mabey we will all be downloading your mythic product and making demands on your forum
