Ok, I feel like a schmuck for starting another thread on this, but I've read all of the threads about setting up the MCE usb remote and i've tried nearly all the suggestions, so I'm trying posting...

I basically followed the instructions in the wiki with the edits suggested in the knoppmyth forums...

I'm running R5B7.

My method:
I unzipped lirc-0.8.0 in /usr/src and ran ./setup.sh

I then loaded the module:
modprobe lirc_mceusb2

I then started lircd:
lircd

to test i used irw:
root@mediabox:/etc# irw

from the suggestion of the forum and the wiki i made the following change to /etc/init.d/lirc:

Orig:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/lircd -- $LIRCD_ARGS \
Changed to:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/lircd \

I rebooted and still couldn't control anything in myth.


I then tried what was suggested in the forums for example lircd.conf and lircrc
cp /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/mceusb2/etc/lircd.conf /etc/lircd.conf
cp /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/mceusb2/etc/lircrc /home/mythtv/.mythtv/

restarted lircd and still nothing.

I did a ps aux and noticed irxevent wasn't running. I also noticed that all of the entries in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc had:

prog = irxevent

should this be prog = mythtv? should irxevent be running? if so, what starts it?

basically, when i reboot, lircd is running but i can't control anything. if i run irw, it doesn't give any output either, unless i manually kill and restart lircd.

So does anyone have any ideas? And also, does lirc log to /var/log/messages by default if you don't specify a log file. I tried to add -L /var/log/lircd after the exec of lircd in the init.d script, but it didn't like the flag for some reason.

Hopefully someone has some ideas of what to check next.

ok i changed all of the irxevents in lircrc to mythtv and rebooted, but still, no dice... any other ideas?

I'd love to see this working, too.

Still running my R5A30.2 box, and the MCE USB remote works perfectly, thanks to help in these very forums.

Interestingly enough, however, following the same steps on a test R5B7 box resulted in, as you put it, no dice.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my box, using a Silverstone LC20M case with the iMon PAD remote. The /etc/init.d/lirc script doesn't ever start lircd or lircmd or irxevent. All of the remote key definitions in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc are set to mythtv except for the eject button, which is tied to irxevent and interestingly, the eject button is the only thing that works in and out of MythTV (no other inputs work in MythTV)! If I manually start lircd and run mode2 and irw, Linux is detecting all of my remote commands correctly but nothing translates to MythTV. The lircrc file looks fine. I have no clue what to try next...
