Last night I made a mistake trying to upgrade VLC (which I didn't need to do to begin with - lesson learned) and managed to completely screw up my R5B7 setup. Since I have a SATA drive I decided just to do a clean install again. I checked the homepage to see if there happened to be a new release out, and lo and behold there is. Long story short, what used to take me all day to get running took about an hour, R5C7 was a snap to install. The new IRblaster setup is great, all I had to do was copy a channel change script here on the forums and I was up and running with my DCT2000 cable box. The only thing I have left to setup are emulators. It actually took longer to reschedule all my recordings than it did to get the box back online. Thanks for the great release!

Does anyone know what has changed in R5C7?

And what's with the 'C' in the version? I thought gamma came after beta. It must be quite a jump to go to Chi.

Maybe the C stands for "really Cool" or "release Candidate". And yes there will be a changelist posted for R5C7. But everytime somebody asks about it the waiting time resets. Perhapse you failed to read what was posted on the frontpage:
Quote:
I'll update the changelog, etc in a few days.

No, I did read that, but it says the "Cesman" will update the changelog in few days.
I probably should have been more specific by asking if anyone other than cesman knows what has changed. Someone mentioned in another thread that pvr350 support has improved, so I figured that others may be able shed some light on the new release. Doesn't each version go to pre-release testers first?

Hey, maybe the C stands for "Curious", or it could be a tribute to the "Cat" that was killed by curiosity. :)

Maybe we should add something to the FAQ.
Rules reguarding new releases:
1: Dont ask when the next version will be out! It'll be ready when it is ready.
2: When it does come out dont ask what is in it. You'll be told when we are good and ready!

   (Perhaps I should put in some more smileys, incase anyone thinks I'm being serious.)

Being a KM tester is kind of like being in fight club, the first rule is you don't talk about it...

Making release announcements and publishing the change list is Cecil's perogative, and not one to be usurped lightly. Would you settle for "Lots of cool stuff!"?

Thanks, thats all I wanted to know. I dont know why "others" couldn't have been as helpful. Now I can go and download the new version with confidence.:)

It's lucky you answered when you did, I was about to go off in a huff and ask for a refund. ;)

In case anyone needed to know the rest of the rules of KM Club:

1. The first rule of KM club is, you do not talk about KM club.
2. The second rule of KM club is, you DO NOT about KM club!
3. If the backend crashes, freezes, or seg faults, the session is over.
4. Two tuners to a box.
5. One OS per Myth Box.
6. Do dual boot, no windows.
7. KM development will go on as long as it has to.
8. If this is your first KM box, you have to ask questions.

Not to be confused with the official Fight Club rules:

1. The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club.
2. The second rule of Fight Club is, you DO NOT talk about Fight Club.
3. If someone says stop, goes limp, taps out, the fight is over.
4. Two guys to a fight.
5. One fight at a time.
6. No shirts, no shoes.
7. Fights will go on as long as they have to.
8. If this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight.

Sorry to get off topic, but I really enjoy that movie.

I think you got that one wrong.
8. If this is your first KM box, you have to search the forum.

Greg: Searching the forum is a good first step but not the end-all, be-all of solving stuff. Many times google helps, other times you just gotta ask.

I agree. Back when I started a couple of years ago, searching the forum was a lot easier. Much less stuff to wade through, so if the answer was there you could usually find it. It is becoming a bit more daunting now. It is one of cesman's first rules though.

Closer- But I think it's

8. If this is your first KM box, you have to read every single posting in the forum, then read them again, and again, and again, then be flamed for posting a question at all since all questions have been previously answered ad nauseum. (obviously)

The best and easist way to search the forum is to use Google and select the site to restrict the search. Try it.

EDIT: I just tried it again and it doesn't work at all! I'm surprised and dismayed that something has changed and the messages here are no longer indexed by Google. That is a sad development.
