Has anyone got a pcHDTV HD5500 to work with KnoppMyth? I was hoping to get the card to work with the drivers that came with KnoppMyth, but it doesn't seem that easy. I don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone has already got one working. I'm interested in both the analog and digital capabilities of the HD5500.

My KnoppMyth box has been running R5B7 beautifully with a Hauppauge PVR150 for several months now, so there are no issues with the computer other than the HD5500 install.

Thanks,
Mike

I also have HD-5500, but this is my first MythTV experience. KnoppMyth doesn't seem to be picking up my card. although both /dev/video0 and /dev/dbv/ exist.

It looks like R5C7 comes stock with the 2.6.15 kernel. The document that came from pcHDTV with the card states that 2.6.18+ have the DVB driver built in. It then says that 2.

Do you know of a distro that has the 2.6.18+ in it? I would like to avoid re-compiling a kernel, but if thats what it takes.

For now, the card came with instructions on how to compile the driver for FedoraCore4 and SuSE 10, so I'm installing SuSE now, going to try it out.

The current stable kernel at www.kernel.org is 2.6.16.19 and the testing kernel is 2.6.17-rc5. I don't know when 2.6.18 is scheduled to be available, but it will probably be a while.

So far I've tried compiling the drivers from the pcHDTV web site and installing them over top of the kernel that comes with KnoppMyth R5B7. I downloaded the drivers from http://www.pchdtv.com/downloads/v4l-dvb ... ver.tar.gz . To get the drivers to compile, I had to change the last KERNEL_VERSION in v4l/compat.h from 2,6,14 to 2,6,15 as was suggested by xyzzy here: http://www.pchdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1462 .

Once the drivers were installed, the dmesg output looked much better, but the HD5500 still wouldn't show any video in MythTV using what I thought were the correct analog and divital devices. I'm mostly judging my lack of success based on zero signal strength indicated by "dtvsignal /dev/dtv0 ##" when using rabit ears and ## based on antennaweb.org.

The analog side seemed like it almost worked, because MythTV config identified a tuner input available on /dev/video24 and /dev/video32. I don't know why both of those devices would show up, but neither of them produced video. My original PVR150 was still on /dev/video0 and worked fine.

I'm currently trying to follow the advice here http://www.pchdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1464 and recompile the kernel without DVB support and then add it afterwards using the pcHDTV driver.

I rarely see it mentioned here, but you may want to try the HD5500 in a different PCI slot. When I was first getting my mythbox running, I had my HD3000 in the second PCI slot, such that there was an empty one between it and the AGP slot. With this configuration everything seemed healthy, but I'd get zero signal strength when trying to tune to HD stations.
Moving the card fixed my problems.

Since it's a quick thing to try, it may be worth while to give it a shot. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, jkruppa. I managed to get the HD5500 DVB driver and IVTV driver working together following the path I mentioned in an above posting. I'll definitely keep the slot change idea in mind in the future though.

If anyone wants more details about what I did, feel free to ask. However, it looks like the issue has since been solved in a much easier way in other posts (which I haven't tested yet), such as http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10580.

Thanks again,
mowens
