How can i change the host name on my backend. RIght now its blank and lists as unknown computer instead of what i want = myth. THanks

edit /etc/hostname

run /etc//init.d/hostname.sh

ok I"ve done that but i still can't navigate to http://myth I have to use the IP. any thoughts?

since something tells me that your not running your own nameserver..

add your myth box to the host file of machine you trying to reach it from.

why don't you just set up an ssh tunnel (port 8001 to mythtv:8001) and do it all over ssh. encrypt the whole thing in the process :) (keep it work safe ;) )

One should just change the hostname that the backend is running on. Doing so can hose your setup as MythTV stores settings in the db based on host name. I highly suggest you read the MythTV docs if you intend on change the hostname.

ya relized the hard way that it doesn't like to have the host name changed. Changed it back and just set it up with a static ip and put that in the hosts file. THanks for the suggestions
