Recently i wanted to install something on my mythbox. after running apt-get install, it failed telling that, first an apt-get update needs to be run.

So i want to take your advice here. Is is safe to run an apt-get update ? Is there a possiblity that it will update some recent versions of any modules and that will make myth start behaving oddly ? I am running R5B7

thanks

The update option is safe, it just brings the DB of available stuff into sync with the repositories. The upgrade option is the dangerous one, and definitely not recommnended. ;-)

BTW - See this wiki page on configuring to use the stable repository which is currently a bit safer. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=SwitchingToStableAPTRepository
