Hey all I have been toying around with a few distros as of late but wanted to give this a try.

Here is the hardware:

Abit AN7 w/nforce2 ultra
Athlon XPM 2600+
1 Gig Crucial ram 333mhz
Gainward Geforce FX5700 Ultra
ATI TV Wonder Pro w/Remote
Two 20 Gig drives for the time being
Sony 530a DVD burner
Antec overture case

Any thoughts on possible issues.

One other question... Does dolby 5.1 work on the optical outs with the nforce2 chipset?

no thoughts on this hardware... you you think I planned well?

I'm disappointed in the lack of in the lack of support for this board with lmsensors but abit is being petty about the whole thing.

the ati is a hold over device until I can justify an hd card and a pvr350...

does anyone know how the support is for the 5.1... from what I understand it is lacking due to the 5.1 being done partly in software.

Looks good... But I think knew that already. With 2 20 gigs you'll have to do a manual install or setup LVM after an auto install. I don't know about 5.1 with the nForce.

If I remember correctly from where I read this (never tried it I don't have the spdif adapter for my mb) the nforce2 will pass 5.1 to a receiver to decode, but it won't decode it itself. Once again that is just from memory, and I don't even remember where I read it for sure. I think it was in the mythtv mailing list archive.

Having the nvidia2 chipset act as a pass thu is fine... aslong as it works with the dvds, though it would be nice to have it artificially do surround sound as well.

Also forgot to mention that I will be using dvi out or a transcoder into my sony hdtv monitor...
