Well the subject pretty much says it all. If I un-mute the line in and just listen to the live TV I hear sound from both the left and right channel. But then when I watch TV or watch recordings the sound only comes from on channel. I am using release 5A30.1. It seems to me to be a software issue but if its not here is the hardware I am running:

2600+ Sempron
PC Chips M860 with VIA K8T800 chipset family/VT8237 mobo – it was free
The onboard audio
A Hauppauge wintv go

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Perhaps the connector or cable is bad?

But then it should not work when I am listening to live tv through linux. That is why I thought it was weird. Is there something I could have screwed up that would cause myth to only record the one audio channel?

If the jumper from the capture card to the sound card's line-in uses a 1/8" stereo mini plug like I remember, make sure it's pushed all the way in on both ends...

This might be related to bilingual support and ivtv not detecting the correct mode.

I have put "ivtvctl -z 1" in my fluxbox/apps file to force both channels to be recorded when bilinugal is detected (it was defaulting to the left and that isn't always the language I wanted).

Check out man ivtvctl. I think "ivtvctl -Z" while you are recording will list the mode.

Cheers,

Allen

as i am not at all experienced in writing bash i post a request here:

The Script should just toggle between 4 statuses.
Each time it is run, it should change the value of # from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 0
ivtvctl -z #

the actual value of # can be seen by using
ivtvctl -Z (this time it is a capital letter !)
Quote:
ivtvctl -Z
ioctl VIDIOC_G_TUNER ok
current audio mode : 3
(stereo 1, lang1 3, lang2 2, mono 0)
available subchannels: 0xd
(stereo 0x2, lang1 0x8, lang2 0x4, mono 0x1)

and is represented by the first line
Quote:
current audio mode : 3

this would make it easy for all dual channel users to switch languages.

Old but Useful Link with more Info

A toggling script is problably not what you are looking for as it would change what was being recorded. Even watching LiveTV, you are watching at least 5-10s behind live and there would be a 5-10 s delay before it changed (assuming it can be changed on the fly).

What I do is set it to record stereo all time time by putting "ivtvctl -z 1" in the ~/.fluxbox/apps file. There is an option somewhere "mute mutes 1 channel at a time" (I can't remember where it is at the moment, but it is somewhere in the setup). While watching, you can then use the mute to cycle between stereo->left->right->mute.

In fact, thats, what i am looking for, because when i am tired i like watching movies in german, otherwise i prefer english *g*. And yes it works during LiveTV toggling in a ssh-console

aha, i always searched for the option in the EPG Menu after having it activated for a long time (i think the German Setting does not make it clear to use mute. And exactly "mute" was something that did not work with my remote. so i try to fix my lircrc now.
thanks

There are a few options that may affect this. The option for Myth to control the volume and the AC3 passthrough option come to mind.

Let me know if you fix it.... this would be a showstopper for me to upgrade. While it is good practice for me to watch movies in German, there are some actors that just don't work with a different voice.

Cheers,

Allen
