Hi, i know ill get flamed for not searching for the answer to this, but I really cant see it.

How do I get the UK HD channels in Myth?

They dont show up in the channel list, when I scan it skips them completely.
How do I force Myth to accept them as valid channels, and do I need to install extra stuff to play them?

Apparently they are H264/mpeg 4.

Erm, are there any HD DVB-T channels in the UK?

I remember hearing something about the BBC trialling them in london, but I think it was something you had to sign up for.

There are some DVB-S HD transmissions that can be picked up in the UK, but I've not had the chance to try those yet.

The BBC has had HD on both sat and Terrestrial for ages.
Oddly though, you need the terrestrial not sat to get the other HD channels, there are 4 channels testing HD on Terrestrial signals at the moment.

Even so, does the fact there are not many channels at the moment mean it should be ignored?

Dont get me wrong, I love Myth and use it all the time but there are a couple of things that really get me.
No PayTv options. Id love to put a sky/ntl card into the myth box but I just cant. I know its possible to get sky as there is a SKY compatible cam around now, but there is very little support for cams in myth.
Just finding a DVB-C card in the UK is almost impossible.
Even less support for HD, let alone european or UK HDTV (none at all).

Which 4 channels are testing HD signals?
And I assume this is happening only in london? There's no HD on terrestrial here in Ipswich.

The BBC have stated that they wont do widespread HD over terrestrial until after the analogue switch over at around the end of the decade. This is due to bandwidth limitations on the digital channels.

I believe the reason you can't get DVB-C cards in the uk is that they don't work with NTL/Telewest's configuration. Being an NTL subscriber, I would love to be proved wrong about this.

There's very little support for CAMs in general, even less in Linux. Although if you could get Linux support for them then they should work in myth, so it's not really a myth support issue.

If this is the case it's really not myth's fault it's just that they chose an ultra bleeding edge codec. There is only now experimental support for h264 in mplayer, and the only one I can think of using it even in the windows world is quicktime.

Bleeding edge codec. I never thougth of the BBC as bleeding edge in anything!
I guess they are looking forward to what is expected in 2012 or whatever.

Yes, the HD is only in London, near Crystal Palace to be exact but thats still a lot of people!

I think ITV, C4 and FIVE are all testing HD on this transmitter. I dont know if they use the same codecs as ive only used BBC HD from dvb-S so far.

I didnt mean it was myths fault, I guess I just wanted to push the subject and raise awareness so that Myth could progress in this area. I really would like to be able to get HD from myth!

In regards to the NTL issue with DVB-C, i think that the dvb-c cards WILL work, but only on FTA channels, I dont know if any are FTA on NTL. There is now a CAM for Sky, so its possible to get a CAM for NTL. Of course not only is this not supported by NTL it breaks their T&Cs i think. Nice.
I dont want to waste the money buying a Nova-C, CI module and Dragon (t-rex) cam to test with NTL.
Its hard to discuss it here without touching on the possible dodgy uses of Cams too. So ill leave the googling to the reader, but I dont see why NTL users should be forced to use the NTL box rather than Myth as a receiver. As long as you pay the sub, what should they care?

Many of the DVB-T cards state that they're compatable with HD, so in theory, you should just be able to get one and scan for the channels.

You may well be the first person on here to try it for the london DVB-T HD, so let us know how you get on

It sees the channel, but skips it and wont tune to it.

I need to install the codecs (no idea how) and tell Myth to recognise the channel and use the codec for it.

Help.

actually when looking at the changelog for the upcoming 0.20 version of myth they have added mpeg4 hdtv support, so if you really want to get it going you might give the SVN a try as it should have that in there now, though there's always a good possibility of other things breaking when you move to and in development version like you get from SVN.
