Knoppymyth is based on Debian, but thats kind of irrelevant.
What's important is the card you want to use. If you let people here know what you're trying to install then somebody else may have already tried it and know how it's done.

it is a 3ware raid controller card model 9590SE it is suppose to have the driver built into the kernal in 2.6.14 and newer but it doesn't seem to be since I am getting a kernal panic on install. That is why I was wondering because I was going to try and install the driver, but there were different drivers for different version of linux.

For R5C7 the kernel version is 2.6.15-chw-2 compiled with SMP and PREMPT. The -chw-2 part just means it's Cecil's second version of 2.6.15.

Google is your friend. You'll find a great deal of information... Really, no one should have to answer this when you can easily use Google or Wikipedia and find far more information than you'll probably want or need. :)

I did do a google search before I replied but what I found was a lot of sites talking about bug fixes or patches What I didn't find was a simple answer of they are or what they do, which is what I was looking for.
