Well, either KnoppMyth or I goofed-I'm not sure which one of us it was.
For that very reason, I have a 2-part question.

I already had my previous partition structure intact from my last KM install,
so I decided to just go ahead and use it when I installed a newer version of KnoppMyth (R5C1).
I just assumed that KnoppMyth's installer would notice my partition structure,
and set all the mount points up accordingly. But I was wrong.

Now, instead of having, for example, /dev/sda4 mapped to /myth, all my folders
are on /dev/sda1. I have no room for recordings on /dev/sda1, as it is tiny-
only designed to be large enough to hold the root directory structure.

First question: Can someone please explain step-by-step how I need to fix this,
so that I won't lose any data in the process?

I'm an old Windows guy, still somewhat new to Linux. Is (Knopp)Myth smart enough
to know to just get its cues from Linux, or am I going to have to make all kinds of
changes beyond, for example, adding sda3 and sda4 to my fstab file.?

Second question: Was/is KnoppMyth supposed to notice preexisting partition
information during installation, or should I have specified it somehow so everything was
mounted at the right place?

- All MythTV knows is directory and file names. You can play whatever filesystem level games that are needed or desired to get them there. Mounting filesystems, using symlinks, ...

- There are just too many possible disk layout options for KM to deal with them all. For example, anything from my simple single LVM volume containing /myth, to more elaborate schemes like yours and mjl's.

Oh yeah, to fix your problem you can probably mount your old partitions in a temporary location, copy any new files over from the new /myth, delete anything but your mount points under /myth, and then mount the old partitions in the appropriate places. BTW - you don't need a cache partition anymore.

I recommend following through with tjc's suggestions for backups and how to save those special tweaks.

To get your current box up, simply edit the fstab and add the two missing entries. You have the information and even if you had to hand type instead of copy/paste shouldn't be a minute or two.

I usually add an entry for my usb stick also.

Once the entries are completed, do mount /myth and mount /cache do a df -h to see if everybody came home.. IF you had a backup before the upgrade, go into the KnoppMyth menu and do a Restore, Reboot.

Without any hardware listed can't offer much beyond that. IF you have a pvr-350 and selected bootsplash you have make a fix before reboot.
The cache I would keep for music storage, the gallery, or like a closet just to save stuff. Maybe depending on the size add edubuntu for the kids.
