I have an MSI K8N Neo3 Nvidia nForce 4 motherboard in a FrontEnd knoppmyth system and I am tring to use the Component out to TV. I went into the XF86Config-4.nvidia.tvout.sample and changed the "SVIDEO" line to be "COMPONENT" and the copied that over XF86Config-4. On reboot everything looks great until I see the menu and then colors get all funny. Are there other changes that I have to do to use Component video?

Try changing the defualt color depth to 24.

That didn't seem to make a difference I also tried going to 32 which gave an error. I then tried going down to 15 and 8 no difference 8 was worse. It is strange up until the knoppmyth screen it looks geat at boot up and even the knoppmyth splash screen looks good. The main screen of knoppmyth has the color not right the screen is way to blue. I have check cables and they are fine and it looks fine until the main screen.

Hi,

As a suggestion for at least something to try, use the "vesa" for the driver and use either 16 or preferred 24 depth.. The vesa is only a generic however it help give clues.

that worked changing it to the vesa driver. The only things now is that is shrunk the picture so that it doesn't fit the whole screen. Normally I would go into the vnidia gui and adjust the overscan but the nvidia gui doesn't work since I can not using the nvidia driver. I didn't see any setting in the XF86Config-4 file is there a different file that I would goto to make the adjustment.

What are you using for a video card? The vesa driver is a "fail safe" option that works at a certain minmal level. However if you want advanced functionallity you need to go back and get the appropriate driver working. There is an example FX5200 XF86Config-4 on the wiki that works for a lot of people using an FX5200 or newer card to do NTSC TV out.

it is an nvidia based motherboard K8N Neo3. I have tried the lasted NVidia drivers and it didn't make a difference. I was using the standard XF86Config-4.nvidia.sample.tvout file and had just changed the SVIDEO to say COMPONENT and was having the issues in my earlier posts.

I just double checked, and as I thought, the "K8N Neo3" doesn't have built in video. This means you either have a different motherboard or you have some kind of video card plugged into it (either PCI or AGP). The model of that video card would help considerably in providing you a correct and useful answer to your question.

I just took the model off of the manual here is the info it is a

At least with the vesa driver you can use it between the 'trying to make it use nvidia' sessions. Other wise, it looked fairly decent but that's just my 2 cents worth.

OK, much better. That motherboard uses the GeForce 6150/nForce 430 chipset combo. You'll need to use an 8xxx series driver. Of which the 1.0-8178 is probably the easiest to use. See this thread.

I updated the driver and didn't make a difference. I then tested it with the SVIDEO and it works fine. It seems to only have a problem with COMPONENT video and only in knoppmyth when booting up is fine. Is there anything special that would have to be done in the XF86Config-4 file for component vs svideo. The other strange thing is that using the vesa driver looks better with the component output.
