Hi,

I have a myth setup at the moment, but all im using it for is FTA and watching stored AVI's and DVD's.

My primary reason for myth was to pipe foxtel into it. My biggest issue is RF leak when the signal hits the card. The picture quality is degraded by about 20-30% compared to direct connection to my TV (using same cables). I use the same card (Kworld DVB) to watch FTA. The FTA signals are perfect.

Is this a known problem people have with TV cards and do they just live with the degradation? or would a USB tuner eliminate the leak?

How do you all avoid the degradation from your STB? Or do you just accept it in lieu of the convenience of having myth?

Thanks in advance.

DR

Are you using a splitter on the cable to feed the myth box and your TV at the same time? If not are you using exactly the same cable to the TV and the mythbox (not at the same time obviously). If so, then it could just be the tuner card has a lower sensitivity than your TV (ie requires a stronger signal). You could try a signal amp of some sort. You could also try lower loss cable if there is a long cable run inside the house.

Are the FTA channels coming in as DVB or analog?
I assume that foxtel is coming into mythtv as analog via an RCA connection.
If foxtel is analog and FTA digital then that would explain the difference in picture quality.
If the FTA channels are also coming via the analog receiver then they should be of similar quality to foxtel.
There can be a big difference in the quality of analog tv cards. I have a PVR150 which provides a good quality picture, but my Winfast2000XP and FlyVideo3000 produce below average quality recordings.

Hi,

Using Svideo from fox. No splitter.

Have done some trouble shooting. when i run TVtime i can get a real good signal... i just cant replicate it in myth. How can i tweak the VFL controls in the mythTV player? the GUI controls arent giving me what i need to get a good pic.

While watching live TV "F" gets the controls for adjusting the playback (video output) "G" gets the controls for adjusting the capture (recording). Once you have values you like you can use one of the channel editing interfaces or an external tuning script to make the stick.
