Not really. No description of the programme. And neither them, or NineMSN, detail repeats, HD, WS, or any of the other stuff we would like. And yes, ICEtv is too expensive for me, too.

What I an saying is that new users have something that roughly works (when d1.com.au is available). Blaming KnoppMyth for Perl Module upgrades is a but wrong when we are the ones who have installed bleeding-edge grabber scripts.

P.S. I haven't got v2.* of the script to work, but v1.65 from last week is working well enough for me and a friend. If anyone wants a copy, email/PM

Nigel I appreciate your help and your wisdom, but please don't take my quotes out of context.

Whether we use bleeding edge scripts requiring perl modules or we need to install perl modules for other reasons that have nothing to do with the latest tv_grab_au or whatever, I was merely stating a fact that CPAN is broken on KnoppMyth R5C7.

I also saw another post from another user stating it was broken on an earlier version as well. cc1 does not accept the "-Wdeclaration-after-statement" compiler parameter, which breaks 90% of CPAN..

KnoppMyth is based on Knoppix, which in turn seems like a Debian distribution from what I can tell. Somewhere along this chain of distributions, CPAN is broken. It could be the original Debian distribution, Knoppix or KnoppMyth - I don't know.

I appreciate the effort that has gone into KnoppMyth, and for that matter, Knoppix and Debian. It is through the time and effort of the developers/maintainers that you and I get to enjoy the freedom we do. I will never "blame" anyone in particular about something not working in a program/application/OS I have had no contribution to.

HOWEVER.

If it doesn't get mentioned - it may never get fixed right? I personally do not know anough about gcc to fix this, but if someone in the development process reads this, and fixes it, GREAT. If not, oh well.

If I didn't mention it, maybe the developer/maintainer would never know?

Other than that, thanks for you contribution to this discussion - it is most appreciated.

Regards,
Ramrunner

Hey guys,

IceTV have a 2 for 1 going before the end of June. I'm currently using that with my Topfield until we see what happens with the EPG debarkle.
$1.50 / week is much closer.

I've tried geting it going. But apt-get runs into more problems then it's worth.

Why did that guy use that new version of perl??? Why didn't he stick to old one? I can't even install this application, linux deps are nightmarish huge problem in linux.

I'll have just get the paper and manual input the televison channels, since tv_grab_au is broken on mythtv_systems.

If anyone has got it working?

What are the extact steps geting it going on knoppMyth?

1. Edit /etc/apt/sources???
2. apt install blah??

I find most of stuff here is rather vague and not clear.

root@mythtv:~# apt-get install libjavascript-perl

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:

The ONLY way I got it to work on R5C7 is the way described by Girkers earlier in this thread. Manually download/install the Debian packages then run the CPAN commands to finish off.

In short, yes I do have it working. Thanks to reading these posts. If you read and follow it should work. That's why they are posted here in the first place.

DO NOT BLAME the author of the tv_grab_au script. That is just stupid. The tv_grab_au script itself, I admit, requires a few dependencies which is NOT the author's fault, it is because ninemsn are now using very tricky code in their web pages to cirumvent us grabbing the TV guide. This is the only way he could get it to work again.

His script's dependencies probably work fine when you install them in other distributions.

Unfortunately there is something broken with regards to this in KnoppMyth (see previous posts).

Regards,
Ramrunner.

P.S. It is also no the author's fault about the perl dude, that again is part of the distribution/apt-get problem.

You did have a recent KnoppMyth backup on that machine, right? If so, just boot from the CD and "Automatic Upgrade" should get you going again.

If you had to force it, it was not going to work.

At the point where the forced install is threatening to install or remove stuff that is not related to Perl (like libc and initrd), it is time to bail out.

Yep, Nigel is correct.

If you use unstable repositories - there is a possibility this may happen. If you then also force the installation - you're almost guaranteed to break something.

Unless anybody can tell me a better way, the ONLY way to get Inmir's tv_grab_au to work at the moment ON KNOPPMYTH R5C7 is install the packages manually (downloaded from packages.debian.org STABLE), then run the two CPAN commands to get DateTime::TimeZone and the other one (escapes me at the moment, something Manip).

Please read Girker's earlier post on this. It seems a round about way of doing it, but it works. Confirmed by me on a clean install.

Regards,
Ramrunner

For those that are afraid of a little work here is a script that will get all the required files for you, install them and then run the other commands as required. This has never been tested as I just wrote it now, took me about ten minutes and that included get the links to all of the packages I had previously listed.

Code:
#!/bin/sh

wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libj/libjavascript-perl/libjavascript-perl_0.52-4_i386.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libc/libclass-autouse-perl/libclass-autouse-perl_1.17-1_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libc/libclass-factory-util-perl/libclass-factory-util-perl_1.6-2_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libc/libclass-singleton-perl/libclass-singleton-perl_1.03-6_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libd/libdate-manip-perl/libdate-manip-perl_5.42a-3_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libd/libdatetime-locale-perl/libdatetime-locale-perl_0.09-2_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libd/libdatetime-perl/libdatetime-perl_0.22-1_i386.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libd/libdatetime-timezone-perl/libdatetime-timezone-perl_0.28-1_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libe/libextutils-autoinstall-perl/libextutils-autoinstall-perl_0.59-1_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libm/libmodule-install-perl/libmodule-install-perl_0.34-2_all.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libp/libparams-validate-perl/libparams-validate-perl_0.76-1_i386.deb
wget http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/t/timedate/libtimedate-perl_1.1600-4_all.deb

dpkg -i *.deb

perl -MCPAN -e 'install DateTime::TimeZone'

If you try this, please post a reply to confirm it for others.

Hi folks,

Firstly - huge thanks to Girkers for forging the manual path to 2.* territory. I have not the experience or the nouse currently to get from A to B without a bit of hand-holding. I followed the manual download/install path of all the individual elements, paying careful attention to get the right versions of everything as listed.

Now, I notice Girkers and Ramrunner, you both say you get a stream of errors during the running of your tv_grab_au. I am also getting these errors, but wondered if I might be receiving the errors you are and then some... Girkers, you mentioned that your errors seemed to be to do with the write_Ad - I'm getting others in addition to this though.

I can't actually run a successful --configure without receiving these unrelated errors. After entering the time zone, I immediately am faced with...

Code:
getting list of services
ReferenceError: spac_writeAd is not defined at line 0: (null)
ReferenceError: spac_writeAd is not defined at line 0: (null)
ReferenceError: spac_writeAd is not defined at line 0: (null)
ReferenceError: spac_writeAd is not defined at line 0: (null)
ReferenceError: spac_writeAd is not defined at line 0: (null)
TypeError: location.protocol has no properties at line 10: (null)
ReferenceError: drawLockIconIE is not defined at line 8: (null)
ReferenceError: Speed_Start_Time is not defined at line 27: (null)
Grab listings for austar channels [yes,no,all, none (default=no)] no

I answer my way through the questions to do with services and locations without errors and then receive the following:

Code:
getting list of channels free service in Adelaide
Can't call method "look_down" on an undefined value at /usr/bin/tv_grab_au line 813, <STDIN> line 8.

...and at that point it terminates, seemingly wihtout having written any config file.

Did you folks have this and just ignore it, or is this a new one?

Anyone have any leads as to what I could try?

Thanks in advance for anything anyone can offer...

Josh

I have found that if you go to http://packages.debian.org you can resolve all of your dependency problems.

I have just recently d/l 2.5 of the script and found that it had new dependancies which I have resolved. I will give you an update later. I can now run the script without any error messages.

Watch this thread for updates.

Once things settle down a little, we should give cesman the list of dependencies in the hope that he will add them to the next release.
