I'm trying to help my friend get an IR remote installed and working. He has the exact system as me (see signature line).
I've got the RS-232 IR receiver working fine on my KnoppMyth system with the Hauppauge silver "dogbone" remote.

My friend would like to use an RCA remote he got with an RCA DSS unit. The remote looks like an RCA D770 and can control 6 devices. I'm not sure if this is THE "6-in-1" remote that is already part of KnoppMyth. The model number inside the battery door is CRK76SG3.

During the initial KnoppMyth install I chose the RCA 6-in-1 remote. Now, 2 months later we were actually ready to try and use it.

We connected the IR receiver to COM port 1 and booted the machine. When we ran the "mode2 -m" command, pointed the IR remote at the reciever and pushed remote buttons, nothing happened.

I looked at the KnoppMyth forum for related symptoms and saw a post about needing to add some serial command lines to the /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh file in order to turn on the RS-232 port.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10653
So, I added them.
Code:
setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none
modprobe lirc_serial
/usr/local/sbin/lircd

After rebooting and running the "mode2 -m" command again, columns of numbers fill the screen when buttons on the remote control are pressed. This indicates the RS-232 receiver is getting signals from the remote ok. However, Mythtv does not respond to any commands from the IR remote.

So, what do I need to do at this point?
Rerun the 'lirc-reconfig.sh' script?
Search for a different lircd.conf file for the RCA remote to put in the /etc/ directory?
Search for a different lircrc file to put in the /home/mythtv/.mythtv/ directory?

Eric
