I am having a "small" font problem with my knoppmyth install. I am trying to run this on an old duron 750. I have 64mb ati card with dvi that I have connected to an hd tv. myth tv is fine. I can read everything ect. my problem comes before I get there. the log in screen and everything is so small it is completely un-readable. is there a way I can change the resolution / font size flying blind? I can read nothing until I log into myth tv. is there a way I can make the change from terminal? I need to know a keyboard short cut to bring up the terminal and what to type when I get it up.

oh and logging in as root the fonts are still to small to read.

thanks

You may need to set DisplaySize in your XF86Config-4 file.

It is used to tell X the physical dimensions of your screen, and the aspect ratio. You are supposed to use the actual width and height in millimetres, but if you want larger fonts you can use smaller figures as long as they still match your screens aspect ratio.

If you hunt around there's an even older posting by me that tells you how to calculate the "correct" bogus values to use to force the use of 75 DPI or 100 DPI fonts at various resolutions. There's also a wiki page although it's somewhat less detailed.

I need some more basic info first. like I said I can't read anything. if I run a manual install will it let me choose a resolution?

No, it won't. When the CD boots, you can use a cheat code to specify the resolution you want (read the info on the screen at boot). You can also boot with 'tv' for a resolution of 800x600.

I had this same problem and I couldn't find any help on the forum or the wiki. After some bumping around I figured out the trick is to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2). I added a section to the wiki FontSizeHowTo to explain it further.
