Using a chaintech av-710 w/ optical out as part of a new install. Everything else works great - just no sound :(. Through lsmod and alsaconf, it looks as if it can't even find the chaintech card. The card was working as part of a previous myth install on the same box.

Not sure what else to check - any help? :)

Thanks.
Matt

EDIT: Wrongly thought I was using my Chaintech - was actually using Nforce2

Sorry to bump the thread - but this is the last thing I need to do to have a working knoppmyth install :).

The system does not see my chaintech card.

lsmod | grep snd - shows nothing

lspci - shows no audio

Any ideas on how to tell the system that this card exists ?! :(

Make sure that you disable any onboard audio in the BIOS.
Try moving to a differnet slot?

I disabled the online audio of my nforce2 mb, but I did that AFTER I installed Knoppmyhth...Would that be the problem? Is there something I need to have the system look for audio cards again?

Thanks for the help :).

D'oh!

I forgot I removed the Chaintech sound card and am using the onboard Nforce2 MCP-T SPDIF

I re-enabled that and alsaconf sees it and aplay -l lists such...

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: nForce2 [NVidia nForce2], device 0: Intel ICH [NVidia nForce2]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: nForce2 [NVidia nForce2], device 2: Intel ICH - IEC958 [NVidia nForce2 - IEC958]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

...but when I try to ...

aplay -D iec958 /usr/share/games/tuxracer/sounds/tux_on_snow1.wav

...I get....

aplay: main:508: audio open error: No such device

...with lspci I get...

0000:00:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce MultiMedia audio [Via VT82C686B] (rev a2)
0000:00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AC97 Audio Controler (MCP) (rev a1)

...Should there be two listings?

...with lsmod I get....

snd_mixer_oss 17664 0
snd_intel8x0 29724 0
snd_ac97_codec 86560 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_ac97_bus 4096 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_pcm 77700 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec
snd_timer 22532 1 snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 10376 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
snd 48612 5 snd_mixer_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 9824 1 snd

Any ideas why I cant get aplay or myth sound to work?

Thanks for the help and sorry for the card confusion
:D

Everything works now - used a 'asound.conf' file from myth (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... dif;#60343) for nforce2 and set myth to use ALSA:digital and it works great!
