I'm unable to get any DVD playback at all (even after eating pineapples). Xine just segfaults (using the command xine -pfhq dvd:/), whilst setting the player to be 'internal d%' gives

Code:

It looks like you are missing a library. Searching the forum may not give you as much information as you would want, since the moderators do not want to get in legal troubles. However, this should help:
First, go to http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/downloads.shtml and look for the name of the library that says "This is only needed if you want to play encrypted DVDs". In your head, put a 2 on the end of it. Now as root, type
Code:
apt-get install <library name>
replacing <library name> with the name of the library.

If you had already done so (and I missed the clue), forget that I mentioned it.

Actually the steps you mentioned aren't necessary. Without giving away the great, evil secret of playing DVDs, I'll just mention that there's a shell script if you look for some EXAMPLEs when trying to LOCATE libdvdcss.

Linuxsneaker and afrosheen - thanks for the replies. Although I have done the Terrible Secret Examples Thing (for which I will surely pay in the next life), the output I posted up there ^ would indicate that it may be an old version - it refers to version 1.25 of the delicious spiky fruit, and I believe version 1.29 is out.
When I went to have a look though, I found that my Myth box that I've spent ages working on seems to be dead. And it was *this* close to working as well, DVD was the last thing. Ho hum.

I'll be back.

Sorry, like a moron I skipped over your logs. I see it was trying to crack the CSS key up there so you obviously had it installed already.

It looks like maybe you need to set or reset the region on your DVD drive. From what I've googled it seems to be a likely cause.
