Is there any way to specify a default tuner for a frontend? I recently purchased an HDTV and I have ordered a PCHDTV 5500. I am thinking ahead of how I'm going to install the new tuner in my backend and the easiest way would be to add it as a third tuner (I have a PVR-350 and 150 already in there). However, I want the PCHDTV to be the default tuner for the frontend on my HDTV (for obvious reasons, no?). I'd also like it to be the default tuner for certain recordings.

Am I better off just uninstalling the first two tuners and re-installing the PCHDTV as the first tuner? What is the best way to do this, place the PCHDTV in the PCI slot of the current first tuner? Will I have to re-install KnoppMyth?

thanks in advance.

You should not have to reinstall anything. I have not played with what is the default tuner in a frontend. I'd imagine you maybe able to set this up in the settings somehow. If all else fails, I'd suggest querying (or search) the MythTV archive.

Thanks for the response, cecil.

Is this the archive you are referring to?:

I'll see if what I need is there, and thanks for the suggestion.

Looking at my keybindings I see that pressing the Y key will "Switch Capture Cards." Does this mean that it will switch between displaying the video coming from my PVR150, 350, and pchdtv cards? If so I can just bind this to a button on my remote and that will essentially resolve my frontend problem, although it may get annoying after awhile.

I'm still searching the mailing list and not seeing what I need. Could the default tuner be changed in the mysql database?

I'll continue my search...

I may be way off base, but I thought whichever tuner you added first became the default. So just stop the backend, run mythtv-setup, delete the tuners, re-add in the order you want, and then re-setup the listings/inputs. Right?

On a side note, isn't it only going to attempt to record programs on the tuner that those channels are tied to? IE, the channels that are HD on my listings show up as 5.1, 11.1, 26.1, etc... So if I schedule a recording on channel 26.1 it will only look at the HD card it's tied to. Whereas, if I try to tune channel 26 it will look at my first PVR250. Maybe it's different between Terr. vs. QAM?

Anyway, I have only begun playing with HD so take this all with a grain of salt. :D

The default tuner for live TV depends on two things:

- What order you set them up and/or preference ranking you established in mythtv-setup.

- The setting of the "Avoid conflicts between live TV and scheduled shows" check box on the first page under Utilities/Setup->Setup->TV->General.

If the box is _not_ checked you default to the highest priority card for live TV. If it is checked you default to the lowest priority card or the card least likely to be used for any recordings in the near term.
