I auto upgraded to R5C7 from R5A26,

I think I must have selected bootsplash and shouldn't have, now I just boot to the penguin on a couch and the frontend won't load.

If I try to launch mythfrontend manually it halts with a "segmentation fault.

I also managed to blow away my wireless NIC drivers in the process.

So, I guess what I'm asking is

1. how to turn off the boot splash

2. how to get mythfrontend to launch

I know there is a bunch of stuff about ndiswrapper on these forums so I'll start looking for answers to that, but if anyone knows why my existing setup got blown away that may help.

Thanks,

Kamy

You can always repeat the upgrade. I've done this 5-6 times on occasion when testing something.

Okay, cool, I was wondering if I could do that, forgot to ask though, I'll give it a shot.

Okay, rerunning the auto upgrade got rid of the bootsplash screen, but after it loads up I still only have the penguin on the couch. Mythfrontend doesn't load and if I try to launch it from a shell it stops with a segmentation fault after "Connecting to lcd server: localhost:6545 (try 1of 10)

any ideas of where to look for the problem?

I think I have had that same problem. I have a VFD display on the parallel port, but after an upgrade the config file for it wasn't correct, and that caused the hanging error.

I got around it by removing the config file (/etc/LCDd.conf) temporarily, but either unplugging the display, or disabling the daemon (update-rc.d LCDd remove) should do the same thing.

Of course, if you don't have an LCD/VFD display, I don't know what is happening, but disabling the daemon may still help.

Well well, I do have a parallel port VFD, I'll give that a shot when I get home. It seems like the auto-upgrade doesn't finish or something and that's why I'm stuck with the penguin on the couch :-)

So I'll give that a try and report back.

I've upgraded to R5C7, I also have a parallel VFD and mythfronend crashed until I set it up.

Now, mythfrontend doesn't crash but the LCD only show an "L" or the time when my box came up. It worked well under r5A30.

If someone knows how to fix this problem, I'd like to know know.

Displaying the time is a good start. Depending on what version of KnoppMyth you upgraded from, you might need to change the settings in MythTV.

Check the stuff on the last appearance page? (Setup -> Appearance -> LCD device display)

Fair enough, but the version of MythTV you now have installed probably talks to the VFD differently to the old version.

0.19 uses a separate program, mythlcdserver, and I think there are different settings that can be turned on/off.

Like I said earlier. In the frontend, go into Setup, then Appearance, then LCD device display (the last page). Check that it is enabled, and set to more than just "Display Time"

I think you didn't understand what I said.
Everything is checked in LCD settings. It doesn't display time correctly.
It only shows the time when the computer goes on. (I mean it displays 8:31 am even if it's 10:24 pm.

a L is displayed for 5 minutes then the time the computer came on for 15 seconds and back to the L for 5 minutes and back again.

So the problem is somewhere else.

Oh. Sorry, I thought you were saying that the time worked from when the machine started up, but nothing else MythTV related displayed.

OK. Some diagnostic questions:

1) As root, do /etc/init.d/LCDd stop
Does the display say "Thanks for using LCDproc and Linux!"

2) Try to start it manually by typing LCDd
Are there any errors?
