Hi everyone,

I just worked for about 6 hours getting this KnoppMyth installed, and now that I have it all setup, it shows static when I watch tv. I also have a problem with my Scan for Channels thing, it scans, but shows no channels. I have a Hauppage PVR-150 with a remote. Please also note that I know very little about linux.

EDIT: While I am here, I will ask another question to prevent clutter on the forums. What kind of cable do I need to connect my S-VIDEO from my FX 5500 card to my TV? It has to connect to the front (of the TV), because I don't have any input things in the back, so that means that the cable has to go from S-VIDEO to the Red, Yellow, and White input things. If you know the name of that cable, please share it :D.

What country are you in? (Why do people never include this info?) If you are in the USA you should be getting your channel listings from datadirect and not need to scan for channels. I've never used the "scan for channels" thing myself so I'm not sure how it works.

You have to convert from an s-video signal to a composite signal. There are many simple circuit diagrams posted arround the Internet for this. I seem to remember permade versions of these converter cables are hard/impossible to find, but I've never needed to look myself. That will only take care of the yellow RCA plug on your TV. For the red and white RCA plugs you need a cable that has 1/8th inch headphone plug to two RCA plugs. This will plug from your soundcard's line-out to the TV's line-in. That cable you can find at most audio/video stores or radioshack if in the US.

I'm in the USA and getting my channels from DataDirect, but everything still shows up static when I click on 'WatchTV'. I am almost positive that I have everything setup correctly, the frequency is set to us-cable, and the IP is my localhost (127.0.0.1). My capture card is set to MPEG-2 encoder card (PVR-x50, PVR-500) my video device is set to /dev/video0 and my Default input is set to Tuner. I have my video source setup to get info from datadirect, which worked (because I have my lineup), and I have the channel frequency here set to default (I am about to try us-cable). When I go into the input, I make the video source set to the one above, and I click on 'Fetch channels from listing source' This can usually take a while. After it fetches my channels, I hit 'esc' to exit and it tells me to run mythfilldatabase, I do this by running xterminal or something and I type 'mythfilldatabase' and it usually goes flawless, I then run MythTV by right clicking and going to graphics>mythtv then I click on watchtv and, lo and behold, I can't see anything but static. Even on different channels. I don't know for the life of me what could possibly be wrong with this thing. Oh, and thanks for the cable information, ryanpatterson.

EDIT: About the cable, is the line out just the one where the speakers would plug in? I kinda think that would be the most obvious choice.

Correct.

It sounds to me that you either have a problem with the ivytv driver misdetecting the tuner type on your board, or you are using hte wrong frequency set for your cable system. There are actually a few different frequency sets used in the US. Please try all the different frequency sets for NTSC/USA listed in mhyth-setup.

If it is a problem with the ivytv driver misdetecting the tuner type then you should try upgrading (and maybe downgrading) the version of ivytv that you are using. There are instruction on knoppmythwiki.org to do this. Or you can try manually telling ivytv what tuner type you have. There is a file under /etc where you can specfiy the tuner type. It is /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv if I remember correctly (I'm only 40% sure I am correct).

Also check the log generated by dmesg to see the output from ivytv during the boot process.

I got the audio cable working :D. All I had to do was hack up a headset cable and a cable that plugged into my TV. I am going to try and hack up an s-video and a composite cable soon.

I also installed windows, and tried the wintv2000 program, I got reception there. I'll try the IVTV thing or whatever it's called once I have MythKnoppix installed and configured again. I'll post back soon (I hope soon, at least) with the outcome.

EDIT: MythTV hates me, everything I try fails. Any last resorts before I switch over to windows?

Read the troubleshooting pages on the wiki?

Especially:

There's also a fairly detailed configuration walk through I did for Dr.Hood around here somewhere...
