When I try to run blayback on a dvd, I get the first screen with usually the Warning about duplication then it goes back to the menu. Anyone with experience on how to fix this problem?

I'm supposing you are refering to playback of commercial bought DVD's through xine (the player that starts when you go to the >Optical Drives>Play DVD option?)
Have you looked at the wiki for suggestions on how to get DVD recordings to work?
In that they suggest you look for examples. People around here usually refer to what you are looking for as 'pineapple'.
You also need a brief internet connection to make it work.
Check out the wiki.

Awesome, I had seen that before but hadn't understood until you explained it. Thanks for the help. One more question though, if MythTV cannot find my transcoding Daemon for ripping, any idea what that means?

It means you need to start the daemon. Press 0. If that doesn't work run mtd in an xterm and see what happens. Please search the forum for details if you need to start mtd at startup.
