Firstly I have to say I am not a experienced Linux user, I know very few unix commands and understand even fewer.

Right, my problem is:
I have installed KnoppMyth, I am getting a signal from the tv card, but Myth can't seem to tune it. I have been reading through the wiki and I have checked a few things out on my system and I think the bttv parameters are wrong. I did "dmesg | grep bttv" I have tuner=19 and it is supost to be tuner=2 for Canada.

I have tried this, suggested on the wiki :

rmmod bttv
rmmod tuner
modprobe bttv tuner=2

but I get " ERROR: Module bttv in in use by dvb_bt8xx,bt878"

any suggestions? and remember I don't have much experience with linux so you might have to be quite spesfic with commands I have to use.

Thanks.

Ok, there seemed to be several modules that I had to rmmod before I was able to rmmod tuner and bttv, but I did it and then did "modprobe bttv tuner=2" and the module was set tuner=2 Great, getting somewhere!.. perhaps. according to http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Bt ... Parameters I also have to edit the /etc/modules.conf file, with the line "options bttv card=64 tuner=2" but in the file it says not to edit it and to look in /etc/modutils when I try to look at that file it says that it is not a regular file. Any idea where I should be putting that option line?

cheers,
Tom.

Before making boot time changes, have you confirmed that the system works once you've manually made the changes as above?

Again, sorry, I am new to linux and I seem to be jumping in at the deep end.

not sure how I would confirm the system is working, would I need to get back into mythtv from the command line, and if so how?

Cheers,
Tom.

Exit the frontend to the desktop (penguin on couch)
Alt-2 to stop backend
Alt-X to start terminal
Make manual changes
Alt-3 to start backend (or type 'mythbackend &' from commandline)
Alt-M to start front end (or type 'mythfrontend &' from commandline)

Thanks,
Following your instructions and these here http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 4768#64768
I was able to set my tuner module parameters and now I can watch TV.

Thanks for all the help, without this forum I would be stuck with Windows and probably getting some new hardware.

Cheers,
Tom.
